I agree that using the commercial rate is rather excessive. Uniform assessing would resolve many of the rule application issues and would be more fair especially where the people have land in two municipalities.
The only reason why rates are different is/are for votes/greed/jealousy.....he/she has: I dont have/I have...etc etc...

Re Oct. 19 letter, “Methods may change, but nothing changes for troubled taxpayers”: I have to respond to N. K. Matuszyk regarding “The fact that condo owners are not paying taxes is wrong.” Where did you ever get that information? Are you crazy? There’s a tax on just about everything in this country! Tell me I must have misunderstood you, although your comment is pretty clear. My husband and I own one of the smallest condos at White Birch Gardens in Rotterdam. Last year our school tax on that small condo (approximately 1,200 square feet) was almost as much as the tax on our split-level home (1,800 square feet), thanks to the previous assessor who would do nothing about the situation. Condo owners do not own land. We own only the inside of the condo. And to think I was paying almost as much for the inside of this small condo as I did for my whole house! Thank you, [Rotterdam Assessor] Craig Surprise, for looking into the unfairness of the tax on condos and re-coding them.
Not to worry Cal. Just another disgruntled taxpayer who doesn't want to pay thier fair share. This woman is a "quack" you know like the one in Steve's mailer's. Birds of a feather flock together.
