watching the council meeting right now, a young man obviously upset and nervous talking about being abused by police and after he's done talking McCarthy out loud says Mental Health problem, that SOB.

This young man has proof of abuse. He was honest in saying he has been in trouble but trying to turn his life around and that he is concerned about other abuses.

McCarthy has NO right bringing up mental health.  He should not be making ANY comments outloud when someone is doing privilegde of the floor.

When did McCarthy become a psychiatrist and what gives him the authority to give out a persons medical condition in public.

Nothing new about that. Fast on the buzzer and the put down. McCarthy would be a continuation of the failed Stratton regime.

Wayne Harper had it right. The City DEMS have nothing to fear with a tax cap. They can always come up with more fees to cover their overspending and fiscal incompetence.

That was terrible.

He does that a lot, not as insulting, but like when Mary McClaine speaks he'll say something sarcastic.

This has really got me upset : (  Who else here saw the meeting and heard the comment?

This young man was just trying to tell what he went through and worried about other abuses by police.  He had a large envelope which he said contained evidence of abuse. could tell he was very nervous and trying to talk fast to get his info out. He admitted he didn't read well. To me that took guts.

At one point he turned to the other citizens there while talking.

I think he was asking for help from anyone regarding his situation.

I was hoping that at the end of the meeting another council member would mention this and ask McCarthy to apologize I know when pigs fly : (

I will be going to the next meeting.

I have heard him make comments to Mary M. again uncalled for and MUST be against the council rules.

After I get done talking if he makes one comment about me, I will call him an SOB right to his face.

maybe he feels his ego isn't stroked enough for the thankless job he stood in line for.....which is fine--his choice...but he has no right to spread stuff from
his own mouth.....

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Being in the dark on every scandal and being rude to the residents are hardly qualities for the next Mayor. What is he going to say; "I was on Metrograft and never spoke?" "I sold out your community tv to Morris?"

Very disappointed in the DEM machine. They couldn't get one stooge to the meeting to make up praises for the fleeing Mayor? The entire corrupt DEM house is falling in front of us.

It is shameful. But this is how the city council and the county legislatures have always treated their residents. They call them 'negative' just like DVR does.

Wanna bet that the gazette prints a story and will dig up all the dirt they can possibly find against this guy.

Everyone should call McCarthy's office tomorrow and 'remind' him how distasteful he was tonight. Too bad someone doesn't have that little interaction on tape to use against mccarthy if he choses to run for mayor.

The Gazetto will ignore it. That's what they do hoping the bad news will disappear.

Don't worry about people recording McCarthy. This is not the first time he has been Council President. There must be hours of him ready for negative commercials. He seems to relish the role of bully, insulting the taxpayers and badmouthing anyone who dares to utter the truth.

I have it recorded. I had called the TU to talk to the night editor. He asked "if the guy did have mental issues" !!!!!WTF

Then I said even if he did it uncalled for for McCarthy to comment to people.

The editor wanted to know if I knew the speaker i told him no.

He told me to call back if I got his name etc. Just called back to an answering machine, attendant said he's in.

Anyways wrote down exactly what McCarthy said  "sometimes mental health issues drive the agenda here"

Then barely audible sounds like didn't have mic on  (not postitive on wording here though)

Now does the person who writes up the council minutes do it word for word?  Think this jerks comment will appear.

The guy's name was Donald Birch (or Burch) well that's what it sounded like, maybe it was even Bertsch, like Elmer.  Don't know.   And he didn't mention where he lived.

Maybe he has a vendetta against the police, almost sounded like he might, and maybe it's something the council knows about, however nothing justifies a comment like that from McCarthy.  Viewers don't know the guy's history, and no one on the council nor the PD is going to say during the council comments that any speakers have issues of one type or another.

How many times has McCarthy or any other council president, "disciplined" a speaker for "attacking" a council rep or a department head?   But what does McCarthy do?

At some point this and future Mayor/Council members as a administrative body, representative of this city, must raise itself to a level of respectibility/professionalism.   There really is no need to alienate the citiznery further with any off hand flipant comments, regardless of the content of the speakers subject matter.  If said body is worried about the impact a speakers comments may convey to the viewers/those in attendance, it shows a lack of faith in their (the peoples) ability to discern the facts.   The people are not as dense as some may deem.   We can differenciate fact from fiction, or we will seek same out if we are so inclined to delve into it further.   A little understanding, patience, humor(not in the belittling vein), and yes even some tongue biting could well serve a useful purpose.
