sometimes people might seem to be acting irrationally due to medical conditions like seizure disorders, problems with levels of blood sugar etc.

Caught On Tape: Police Taser Diabetic Man

A driver in Oklahoma went into severe diabetic shock, but instead of getting help, he was tasered and handcuffed.

El Reno, OK -- In Oklahoma, a driver went into severe diabetic shock, but instead of getting help, he was tasered and handcuffed.

The video shows what happened in El Reno, Oklahoma last month after the man's truck spun out on the interstate.

The town's police chief says his officers thought the 53-year-old man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was resisting arrest.

He says after they realized that wasn't the case, they called an ambulance.

"It's unfortunate in the officers' aspect and they feel extremely bad after they learned that in fact it was a medical need and not someone who was under the influence of an intoxicant, drug or alcohol."

A spokesman for the agency that certifies officers says it's state law for all student officers to learn how to recognize and care for type one and type two diabetic patients.

How would a cop know the difference?

The schenectady cops 'supposedly' didn't know that curtis was on drugs.........according to them.....yes?

So the SPD is clearly not qualified to know the difference! So no Tasers for them!!!!

All the cops had to do was say are you a diabetic or look for an ID card with a warning on it, or a bracelet or necklace with the information on it. Most diabetics have that information somewhere on their person. Again this was an officer jumping to a conclusion without gathering all the facts. Police officers are trained in first aid and it's time they start using their brains instead of their tasers.

It was only a matter of time that someone would die.  I am shocked the elderly lady didn't have a heart attack.  I was amused thinking about the tazer the other day when A Rotterdam cop stopped me from turning right on red illegally.  (I never saws the sign that banned the right turn in all the years I have lived here)  Was glad I didn't get tasered..My fear is that I will get t asered and the shock f rom it will make me a Republican!!!!LOL

Tasers = should not be allowed.

Nothing wrong with identifying with a political party, who an ethnic group or a religion.  And so what do you  do identify with independents?

I just think it's funny that you believe if you switch a political party, your core values somehow get stripped away.  It's actually kind of scary when you think about it.  Party first - the individual second.  It sounds to me like being a democrat is a religious experience to you.  To you, being a republican is kinda like when a Catholic leaves the church.

Maybe if the little innocent, sweet talking polite kid, did as he was told.....maybe they wouldn't have had to use the tazer on him.  Really?  When do kids become accountable for their actions.  Enough with the "not my kid" attitude.  I have seen some of these "sweet" kids in action.  If the officer had wrestled his obnoxious a@@ to the ground, it would have be unnecessary force.  The kid was home shortly after his performance...maybe next time he will think twice before "getting Big" with authority....... good for RPD!  maybe they should have tazed the kids parents too, for raising a disrespectful brat!

Yes,,the streets are MUCH safer in Rotterdam since the tasing of a 12 year old at the roller skating rink.  I'm surprised they didn't bring in the water cannons or bean bag guns to disburse the crowd of pre teens at the roller skating rink to make a statement.  You know, to show the pre teens who is in charge.

I agree that this kid obviously had no respect for authority. But I do think that a couple of cops physically taking him down would have had the same effect as a taser. Betcha if they shot him in the leg, it would have impacted the kid even more!!

So where do you draw the line? What are the guidelines for using tasers?

A Hummer will be in the fleet shortly. Just like Fulton County Sheriffs. The machine gun turret comes a little later. You don't go to a total police state all at once you know.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
