They should have called the spd for back up. They are confronted with gang fights all the time. Although I'm hopeful that this was just an isolated incident.

But again my only question was IF this was 'life threatening' and if this kid had a weapon.

If the kid had a weapon you can be sure they would have made that clear so I'm assuming not. Tasers were supposed to be an option in scenarios where lethal force was the next solution, going by that unless the kid was a threat enough to be shot dead this wasn't justified. As far as the cop goes I'm not going to bash him but he made a wrong decision so he should lose his job end of story. We pay our police to make good decisions even under stressful situations and if they fail to live up to that they don't deserve the power we give them.

The police do not have a leg to stand on.  If you are a cop reading this board, you should know that.  Henry's assessment=GREAT explanation.

Hey lets look at this truthfully the punk shouldn't be fighting in the first place.  Right away people get on the PD's case.  If some folks here feel that strongly that the PD is wrong then in the future don't call them when you need help.

Point taken. The state police should be called then....right?
Are you saying that the cops had reason to believe that this kid had a gun, knife or anything life threatening to use a taser?

Cop out Cel.  That was an inappropriate use of their position.  Kids fight all the time.  That's why they're kids.  No dress rehearsal forbeing a kid. There was no reason to taser the kid.

First, the kid deserved to be handcuffed and taken away. Let him spend a few nights in jail!!! Scare the hell out of 'em!! The kid's behavior was absolutely unacceptable!! This type of 'beat up/abusive/violent' mentality with these kids is rising at an alarming rate.

Second, I just question if the taser was really necessary in this case. If it wasn't, there could be a law suit brewing. If it was necessary.......then I hope the kid learned a painful lesson and thinks twice before he tries to solve his problems with violence.

A couple of wacks with the billy club on the shin would have done the trick - maybe  the kid walks with a limp for a couple of days.

No tazer necessary in this case -

I don't think it was necessary either UNLESS the kid had a gun, knife or other life threatening violent devices.

Perhaps this technique can be used in place of water boarding. I mean this isn't like torture.....right?

NOW YOU NOTICE THE SAFETY GLASSES? THAT IS BECAUSE THEY HAVE LITTLE BARBED FISH-HOOK ATTACHMENTS THAT FIRE INTO THE SKIN. MOST PEOPLE DON'T HAVE THE BENEFIT OF SAFETY GLASSES WHEN THOSE BARBED METAL HOOKS FIRE INTO THEM.

I think it's a good idea that anyone that wants to carry one of those guns to use on someone (as a last resort, as they say) has to have it used on themselves first.  The only question I have is why not have them feel, to the full extent, what it feels like.  How about letting them fall to the ground on their own without padding, and if you're talking the floor at Rollerama, you're REALLY talking about unpadded.  They might as well be falling out on the skating floor or in the parking lot.  I believe the areas in Rollerama that have rugs are just concrete with a thin rug over it.  I understand that there was an issue where they thought it had to be used, but without being there, I don't know if it truly was needed or not.  I won't say it was, I won't say it wasn't.

WEll,
I do have personal experience at the hands of Rotterdam PD and their tazers.

allegedly one of the boys demanded to have a conversation with me.
I politley refused and went my way.
allegedly He came up behind me and grabbed me and demanded I talk to him
I refused again and asked him to release me.
allegedly He refused to let me go, then he called his partner over to grab my other arm and they warned me I was going to be tazed.
and allegedly  taze me they did 4 times then they handcuffed me dragged me to the station to then figure out what to arrest me for.
These guys are inanimate object with no critical thinking skills in my opinion
They are factory trained automotons in my opinion
They are dangerous to liberty in my opinion
So they get away with it in my opinion
There feinds in government can shake me down for 7500 bucks force me to get a lawyer for another 5 grand at least in my opinion
And they still postpone after three months.
What a joke.
I am sure there are some good cops out there  but you guys are being over run by morons in my opinion
Yes morons with badges and uniforms and retirement and free health care in my opinion
yeah man I am dangerous, I read, study, never had a gun or even shot a dang deer.
I am dangerous cuz I asked a cop a question?
I guess they are not programmed for answers?
Only if someone questions you he is a punk right?
Oh sure you did not hurt me physicaly, really I have thrown down with way tougher dudes than you.
If you did not have badges and weapons you two would have been on your butts in the street.
I saw my alleged  tazer guy at my first court appearance.
I watched him swagger around the courtroom in his full uniform very tall and handsome looking young man.
But when he was told to take me downstairs and process me he bailed I watched his countenance fall
He would not even look me in the eye?
I watch the wheel of justice roll.
The speed of the roll is directly proportional to the direction.

We didnt come this far to get this far.

So you are a BLAMELESS VICTIM?????
Police want to talk to you and you refuse...mistake!
They try again and you refuse....mistake!
You are tasered "4" times.....1 time should have taken you down to your knees, so why 4 times????
If you were arresseted strictly for 'not talking" to them, why would you need a lawyer and why would this go to court?
You start by saying they demanded to talk tio you, then you say you are a victim because you asked the cop a question....or is it you quetioned his authority to do whatever he was doing?

Maybe your situation is a legitimate concern...but reading your message leaves some doubt about your BLAMELESS VICTIM position!  Tasered 4 times????????

rpforpress - RPD has only one type of Taser, as far as I know. All modern models are equipped with a firing projectile and the ability to remove that projectile so the weapon can be used like a stungun.

Kevin - The kid was supposedly outside rollerama when he was nailed. But your right. I remember reading about a case up in Glens Falls where a druggie was fleeing from the cops on foot. He tried to jump over a parked car and they nailed him with the projectile. The guy fell limp in mid-air and basically landed head first on the pavement. I seem to recall he was critical for some time.

The way I look at it is cops know(or should know) simple take-down maneuvers that can be employed effectively. They should have used one of those. The only reason I can see for them to tase this kid was as a show of force to an unruly crowd. I firmly believe the Taser should only be used before the service revolver is used. These things have been linked to plenty of deaths, though I don't believe they've ever been full blamed for them.
