Why would the new admin want her gone?  That doesn't make sense.  She is obviously very well liked by most that know her.

Eunice is bringing down the new administration.  She is making them look like a bunch of liars....oh strike that, they
did that to themselves.  Eunice just helped it along.

No second chance for notary fraud

Perhaps it was Rotterdam Town Clerk Eunice Esposito’s own advancing age — 83 — that made her sympathetic to the plight of elderly or infirm town residents needing her services as a notary to qualify for a STAR exemption. And maybe there was, as she and other town Democrats allege, just a touch of partisan politics involved when then-town attorney (now-councilman) Republican Gerard Parisi ratted her out to the state for notarizing signatures when the signatories weren’t present. But neither explanation matters, really, and every notary should know that.
Indeed, one of the primary functions of a notary — as defined by law — is to do exactly what Esposito failed to do: witness, in person, the execution of important documents such as deeds, affidavits and powers of attorney.
The state’s School Tax Relief exemption, which can only be given to a property owner for the house they reside in, is one such document. A fraudulent application could indeed be costly to a municipality if it resulted in relief being granted to someone who didn’t deserve it, and while Esposito claims this didn’t happen because she only bent the rules for signatures she recognized of people she knew, it’s not hard to imagine some sliding — inadvertent or otherwise — taking place down such a slippery slope.
It’s no huge deal as far as her ability to run her office, but Esposito — who has already admitted to the mistake — should spare the state the trouble of a hearing and turn in her notary’s license. It’s one job she should no longer be allowed to do. .........................>>>>......................>>>>.....................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....705&ViewMode=GIF

wait.  So the assumption here is that the current admin wants to get rid of someone who has been in Rotterdam town hall for what 30 something years?  And that Mr. Parisi just so happened to accomadate their plan being the team player that he seems to be.  Again.....doesn't pass the common sense test.

So the new admin is dumb yet super smart and manipulative?  got it.

See, that's where I have a problem with this.

Be her old or young, age shouldn't be an issue. This fraud could have been committed by anyone, at any age. Bringing age into it just insinuates that she's senile or too old to do her job. There's no evidence that age or mental function had any bearing on the issue.

If Parisi is indeed the one that "reported" the issue, there's two ways of looking at it.  Either it was politically motivated, in which case it would do him no good, there's no Republican that's a viable candidate for that office, and I believe, the law currently allows the majority to replace the position until the next election - or special election. The other way of looking at it is that Parisi, if he did report it, was actually doing his job .. he has a responsibility for looking out for the taxpaying residents of Rotterdam.

A notary signs documents attesting to the fact that the person appearing before them is actually the person signing the document ... not that the document is correct, valid or legal - they're just verifying the signer of the document. If that later resulted in STAR paperwork being filed, we don't know - there's, so far, no evidence of that - just the fact that she violated the notary law, not any specific documents.

Either way, what she did was wrong, and it needs to be addressed.  Hopefully Eunice will take the immediate action of surrendering her license - and or stepping down from the position.  A court might not be so generous.  I'd hate to see a distinguished career go down in disgrace - but Eunice, if you're seeing this, it's time, do it now.

I don't have any reason to believe your allegations after remarks like that.

Well if what you're saying is true, then Eunice may be guilty of fraud, and whoever the "surprise" is may be guilty of conspiracy to commit fraud?  Also whoever the resident was may ALSO be guilty of conspiracy to commit fraud.

Three wrongs don't make a right - weed out the rats, whoever they are, from whatever party they're from.  Certainly you agree, Peeper?

Quite the story line.  Bottom line, the Town Clerk, as well the STAR applicant, broke the law.  Trying to pull in a third "surprise" party doesn't make sense.   But it does make the story more dramatic!

And even if it was the case, then fine!  Charge whoever the "surprise" party is with a crime also, if he's committed one.

Intent to commit fraud by another's hand equals conspiracy.  I am not saying what Eunice did was okay but surely if you REPS want her resignation then the surprise co-conspirator should also be held accountable for their part. I am quite sure that this will all come out at the hearing.  I am also quite sure that this is not the first misdeed with regard to exemption administration.  Can of worms for whomever is charged with the duty to administer.

Something smells and its more than a stinkin notary.

Last night we went to Price Chopper. There were these people in line (seniors) that were exchanging places/banks they could go to get things notarized instead of town hall.
