"Suicidal behavior" ya mean like voting for a Krat? That destroyed an entire State. This is a major problem in crime riddled Schenectady? Today 2 teachers at the Schenectady High School were hospitalized breaking up a fight amounst girls! This County is going to hell in a hand basket and all this useless County Legislature does is pass more idiotic laws. The one leader who opposes this nonsense is not running again!

I hope the first people that get texting tickets are Gazetto editors who engage in this "suicidal behavior" in Niskayuna. ROTFLMAO!!

Sure we need a change from these dems....but where? The dems are on self destruct and bringing us right along with them with our higher taxes. The reps have a clear leadership issue and the cons are not even a recognizable political party anymore.

So where is the new, not recycled politicians?

The law banning texting only gives insurance companies the ability to say 'no to payment' due to distraction......there by limiting liability or some
dumb a!@ belief in control over it.......PULLLLLLLLLLLEASE.......

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Schenectady County police are itching to give tickets to texters
Wednesday, July 1, 2009
By Justin Mason (Contact)
Gazette Reporter

SCHENECTADY COUNTY — Lt. Jason Temple of the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Department is eager to write a ticket for the next driver he sees tapping out a text message on a cellphone.
Law enforcement officials roundly agree that the practice is dangerous. Yet after more than four months on the books, the county’s law enforcement agencies have yet to nab a single motorist for violating the county’s ban on texting while driving.
“I always dream about giving one,” said Temple, who also heads the county’s Traffic Safety Board. “But nobody in the county has given one yet.”
And some police aren’t sure they’ll ever be able to write one of the tickets — each carrying a $150 fine — much less have it successfully prosecuted in town or village court. Glenville police Lt. Rick Conley said it’s hard for patrolmen to differentiate whether a driver is hitting speed dial to make a legal call with a hands-free device or using a mobile phone to surf the Internet, which doesn’t appear to be covered under the law prohibiting the composing, reading or sending of text messages.
“The intention of the law is very good because there is an issue with people texting,” he said Tuesday. “The problem is that it’s hard to enforce.”
Conley also questioned the difficulty in proving a case in court. He said a case coming before a justice court would likely rely on the officer’s word versus the motorist, unless prosecutors subpoena phone records.
“It’s going to be very time-consuming for a minor offense,” he said.
Also, not all police in the county are enforcing the ban. State troopers patroling the outlying regions of Schenectady County and the interstate thoroughfares will not issue tickets for a driver they see texting because they don’t enforce local ordinances or county laws, said a sergeant stationed at the Princetown barracks.
But the lack of enforcement is policy-based, not because the troopers themselves don’t consider the practice of texting while driving a danger.
Keeping the roads and highways safe was the main goal of the legislation, explained Susan Savage, the chairwoman of the county Legislature who proposed the law in December. Still, she regularly sees people tapping away as they drive, which is something that she figured police would also notice while they are out on patrol.
“If they’re not seeing people texting while driving, they’re not looking very hard because it’s evident on all our streets and highways,” she said. “Maybe they’ll have to look a little harder.”.............>>>>............>>>>.........http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2009/jul/01/0701_txting/

In my blind fanaticism, I must say that this is the dumbest law these fools ever dreamed of. It is the Republicans fault though, because they didn't compromise, and convince or persuade any of the democrats to change their minds, so I agree with Cicero- throw out the remaining Republicans and you can have all robots in charge in the future.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

You forgot non-persuasive.  You also forgot to blame Susan Savage's children for the law, because you heard they admired their mother, they must be communist to the likes of Stalin.

Her dog and cat can be Mao and Marx.

WOW....how out of touch is suzie? Has suzie been informed that it takes cops a couple of hours to respond to a 'real' call? That DWT is clearly NOT a priority to them? And has suzie seen the number of people still talking on cellphones while driving? I must see at LEAST 10/day!

I have been in cars where (stupid) people are driving while texting....and they are so freakin' good at it that NO ONE would know. NO ONE! These people who drive while texting, can do it without even looking at the phone. It's all by memory and feel of the phone.  So I don't know what the hell suzie is talking about.

Not to mention, that this statement that the cops will have to look a little harder, isn't going to make or keep some friends! I'm sure the cons didn't like that statement!

And suzie must be just a wee bit out of touch with crime in the area. Would someone please take her out of her tax and spend world and show her what the world she lives in REALLY looks like?

Another idiotic law from the worst County government in the State. SS Savage did something right? Did she resign today? How about her buddy Jiffy Jeffy?

Itching to catch a texter? WTF? How about arresting some of the huge backlog of bail jumpers and felons running loose through the County. Naah, they would rather ticket some 18 year old blonde hottie texting her girlfriends about late night plans. Major County priority? These idiots are so lost it's incredible. And the Gazetto goes right along unquestioning with this manure.
