As DV would say,
"The (Dem) super and his DEM team are doing a wonderful job in Rotterdam, the renaissance is continuing."

No interested buyers, they have to resort to an online auction!  WOW.

Oh my, someone is very upset about the "nayboobs" uncovering the truth and he'll be looking to his dems on how change procedures to insure the continuing of cover-ups and prevent transparency in government.

Again... is the mall closing, or just going to be run under different owners?

If the mall is sold to another management firm, but remains open... how does that impact Rotterdam or
the area?

most of the stores there are not doing too good....and it has been rumored KMART will be closing...such as they are on Central Ave...

the quality at this mall seems to be leftovers.....too crowded with other chain stores remnants...

I don't know if it will remain open....but nooooooooooo   WALMART.

WalMart would be the worst possible outcome!

The key will be to watch and see who buys it.

If sold to another management firm, very little may change. A new management firm may attempt to bring in more stores just as the previous company did. However if a developer were to buy it I would suspect it to be turned around and sold to
a.) The county as exit3 suggests, or
b.) develop the property themselves for resale to another entity (ie; Walmart). If the latter were the case, then I would expect them to demolish the structure, as building new is in most cases more cost effective than rehab.

One other scenario may be that they don't accept any of the bids. Is there a reserve? Or could someone theoretically get it for the minimum?

So pay attention in the next few days to the results of the auction. JMHO

Actually, the Rotterdam square site would lend itself well to a Mohawk Commons style treatment.
The parking lots there have always been oddball shaped and never really fit a standard rectangular mall layout.

Including a food market (ie; Shoprite) would lend itself well also.

I agree with Patches, that mall had become a dump. I'm thinking Kmart may be leaving the whole area. That mall used to be the only place to shop for people living out the other way, but when Amsterdam gets a Michael's and Schenectady County gets skipped over, it shows you where the shoppers are going.
The mall is a white elephant as a mall, now, I highly doubt anyone would buy it for that purpose when the present owners aren't making a go of it. That probably means that Schenectady County should swoop in and buy it at listed value, and then take it off the tax rolls. That's what happened with the Trustco building, remember? We like to spend money to help some entity that is abandoning the area, so they won't have to keep paying taxes on some piece of property they can't unload on the open market.

I heard that the Rotterdam Mall bid was pulled of the market late this afternoon and no reason given for doing so.
