Read the paper today. Looks like 'Omerta' has kicked in. The great investigator/prosecutor Carney has run up against a wall of silence from the tough teenage kids involved...wow. They must be a bunch of regular Al Capones.

They  need tougher laws that 'stick', a tougher prosecutor and leaner welfare benefits. And that is just a 'start'!

School board member says Facebook photos, quotes are irrelevant

By SCOTT WALDMAN, Staff writer
First published in print: Friday, May 14, 2010

Editor's Note: Some of the attached photos contain explicit language.
An Averill Park school board member maintains a Facebook page on which he encourages friends to drink until they vomit and is shown in a photo helping a woman do a "keg stand."

Steve Valente, 23, has been an Averill Park school board member for five years and is currently running for re-election to a second term. He is shown holding a keg and drinking hard liquor in dozens of photos. In one, he is sticking the tap of a keg into a woman's mouth as she is held upside down.
"To those of you who puked last year; start drinking now," he wrote beneath a profile photo in which he holds a beer bottle in one hand and a liquor bottle in the other.

Valente also lists quotes that use derogatory terms for homosexuals on his Facebook page. He rails against illegal immigrants, is shown wearing a "Speak English Now" T-shirt and tells a friend who wants to be a teacher that she will have to deal with "(expletive)head parents." Among his favorite quotes, attributed to a friend, is one that states "I'm not racist, I'm selective."

"I don't feel this is relevant," Valente said in an interview Thursday. "It doesn't affect my judgment in any way."

Valente said his Facebook page is private and has nothing to do with his work overseeing a $55.4 million budget and educational programming for 3,500 students. He accused a reporter of "character assassination" for reporting on the content of his Facebook page.

Valente removed all the photos from the public portion of his Facebook page after a call from a reporter.

Valente was elected to the board at 18, and is the youngest board member ever selected in Averill Park. He said he had "never been in the presence of underage drinking" and would prevent it if he were. He said his work on the board has focused on controlling taxes, not fighting alcohol and drug abuse.

He is the second school board member in a year to be shown in photos in which people are doing keg stands, a party trick in which a participant chugs beer while upside down. In September, photos emerged of former Schenectady school board member Jim Casino using an "ice luge" to imbibe shots of liquor. His wife, Donna, an elementary school teacher, was shown being hoisted in the air by her legs for a keg stand.

Casino was later forced to resign.............>>>>..............>>>>...............Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/AspS.....4/2010#ixzz0ntt7Pdlr

I don't get it - these videos show a person drinking alcohol (or enjoying an adult beverage, as Bumble likes to say )  They don't show him providing alcohol to minors.  Are these two things really the same?

But what character? That he drinks alcohol? I don't understand.

Does anyone else not see a problem with this?

Ask yourself this question, would you want this guy making decisions that control what happens in the school district that your kids attend? His actions are that which is generally found at a college frat party not a mature adult.

I don't judge people on whether they have at one point in their life consumed alcohol from a funnel.

Truth be told, I might be worried if they haven't done something of the sort!!
