A member just emailed me and said that they did read David's comment on the Gazette last night before they removed it. It was the same comment we have previously posted here:

It appears that the online Gazette has removed Mr. Giacalone's most recent post.  Contiuing their tradition of selective free speech.

Wait, I just checked again, and Mr. Robarge claims he hit the wrong check box.  It was an inadvertent omission.  Like some of the editorials printed in their papers.

David's post has been re-posted, with an apology from Mark Robarge:

You're surely correct on the law, Judy. Readers can find a good FAQ on copyright and Fair Use here --
http://www.chillingeffects.org/fairuse/f...
I hope, however, that the ill will caused by asserting your copyright protections won't backfire.
You make it sound like you never knew about the internet forums posting Gazette articles until this week. Surely, that can't be true, unless you've all be asleep for years on the editorial board.
I wrote about this controversy today -- linking and summarizing and quoting -- at my weblog f/k/a. See http://tinyurl.com/fkaGazetteCopyright

I'm surprised to find that my respectful comment, with a link to a useful resource that supports your position on Copyright Law, and one to my weblog post on this topic, has been removed by the Gazette staff. I would appreciate an explanation, and look forward to discussing it more fully at my weblog f/k/a, at http://tinyurl.com/fkaGazetteCopyright .

This must be why the gazette changed it's name from 'the schenectady gazette' to 'the daily gazette'......
The front page has an article on Fulton county, saratoga springs, capital region and one about the food pantry in Schenectady. The DSIC article and the rotterdam woman's suicide was on the second.

Every day it's like that

Did you notice how small the write up on the suicide was? It was a pretty big event for Rotterdam (streets closed, State Police all over going door to door, etc)  yet it got a 2 paragraph writeup below the fold on the left page (least read).

In defense of NPR, it would be tacky at best to have this story splattered all over the news media. It is clearly a personal, private tragedy.

In defense of MT, when the people of Rotterdam say they heard gun shots, a woman is found dead, roads are closed and there is lawenforcement everywhere....they want to know what happened.

And now they do!
