I am going to meet with the Board of Supervisors in Schoharie County.  We played phone tag a couple of weeks ago and I haven't had a chance to get back to him.  I will atleast be able to find out some basics.  It is my understanding the elected Supervisor of each town IS the representative of that town on the Board.  We may end up finding out that Schenectady County switched to a legislature for a very good reason and works better (imagine that then a Board of Supervisors.  The way I look at it is it doesn't cost anything to gather the information then we can take it from there.

Rene, I might be missing something here. But why would a county legilature be better than a Board of Supervisors? I mean it would be one town, one representative(supervisor). Right? Where is the negative there?

Rene, may be on to something about the legilature better machine than supervisors board.....It would depend upon the single supervisor from each town..
Rotterdam being just a town...has a hard enough time with a town supervisor and the local yokel baggage that comes with them.......?????

That's why I think every 20years or so the machine should be changed up.......ya know shake out the skeletons of politics....not the personal crap

This is exactly why we need info.  You have to go into a project with an open mind and do the research then come to a determination.  I don't necessarily think the legislature is better then the Board of Supervisors. I also don't see a negative, but I don't know enough about the Board of Supervisors (BOS) arrangement to come to any decision.

There is nothing better about the current Legislature. It was created to fleece the oppressed taxpayers out of more money for useless staff and public servants(sic). Saratoga County, which has the lowest taxes in the State has a Board of Supervisors, so does Schoharie County. The fact that "Sal" is so opposed also speaks to its necessity.

Everyone should talk to neighboring County leaders. The change can be done by a County referendum approved by a majority. Can't believe anyone in the Hilltowns which has absolutely no County representation and would have 2 seats on a Board of Supervisors would vote for the current system. At some point in the New Year, we need to stop talking and start organizing with an Election Attorney to gather petitions. This would win 3 to 1. The people are fed up with this horrible tax and spend Legislature. Changing deck chairs on the Titanic will accomplish nothing.

Comparing Saratoga to Schenectady is like comparing apples to oranges......Schenectady has a racetrack?--nope....schenectady has a SPAC?--nope
Schenectady has an upscale bustling downtown/city?---nope.....

Not to say Schenectady could never be 'big' again but, the fact remains we have a bunch of empty buildings, GE short jobs and a bunch of disgruntled
police officers and large populace of gypsies/transients,union suffocating county jobs etc......as for our hilltowns/burbs separate is as separate does......the county does a very poor job of making it a cohesive cooperating operating machine.......Schenectady has less resources(or appears to),,,,is it the
monkey?????

Does Schoharie County have a racetrack and SPAC? This is what Saratoga County has, former Schenectady County residents and businesses fed up with the sky high taxes and governmental bozos. By the way, the ballet and orchestra lose money at SPAC.

Saratoga County taxes are a third of ours. When you have lower taxes it encourages growth and people move in. Just the opposite thing is happening here and not even talking about insane Metrograft schemes, that no other County in the Nation would support. A Board is a way to reign in Metrograft and eliminate 15 County representatives. Change is coming to State Street.

That's right....and a 'different' populace......the ballet and orchestra may lose money but you know how we people are.....there are
always the 'end caps'.....if not the ballet and orchestra there's gambling and downtown.......

I say let the colleges be a tool......along with their supporters.......JMHO.....the rest of the county has no use for anything else
or appears not too.......

The county was set up for a 'cheap/uneducated workforce' with organized monkeys at the helm----now here we are in this damn
we paper bag.......can they let go of tradition????

Of New York state’s 57 counties outside New York City, 17 have elected county executives, 30 have a hired administrator or manager, and 10 are run by the chairman of their legislative body or board of supervisors.

Each form of government has its advantages and disadvantages, experts and county officials from different counties said.

Anyone have any news on forming a Board of Supervisors?

The option for a Board of Supervisors should be looked into to replace the county legislature. There are many Board of Supervisors in NYS: Onterio, Saratoga, Warren, Seneca, Wayne, etc.

I believe there would be more direct control over finances, It would also remove one layer of government. It may also allow the residence more involvement in the decision making that directly effect their community, quality of lives and taxes.
