God Rene....I had no idea that you guys pay so much in county tax with probably nothing more than a sheriff's patrol for a service. What other services do you guys 'over there' benefit from? And THAT is what I don't understand. Why does a town, with-in a county have to pay for services they don't want, need or receive?

Yes, lets talk about the high taxes out here Sal.  I just pulled my property tax bill for my own house for 2008.  The general town tax was $82.67.  Aghast!!!!!  That is astronomical.  Now, let me take a look at my county tax or.....I'm sorry, I guess they are calling it the NYS and Federal madate tax now, that one was $1,491.70.  I think the residents are getting a better bang for their buck with the town tax then they are the county tax.  Let me see, what services do we receive from the county again???  Oh Yeah, taxation without representation!!!!!!!!!!!! Angelo excluded of course.

I'm glad she (Judy) gets out here once a week to meet with important people, that way atleast one person per week will feel represented.  I just wish they would let the rest of us know so I can stop saying these things and put her on the list with Angelo.

As for the library, our democratic town board member is on the library committee and she has not indicated to us any plans to make the library new and environmental.  In fact, she has indicated there are no plans at all.  Just came from the Community Center a little while ago for a Garden Club meeting and unless they use the pool there is no more room at the community center for the library.  In fact, I spoke with the owner when this rumour surfaced a couple of years ago and he said it can not work having the library at the center because of space constraints.
So my facts are in order, perhaps you better go back to your homeland security sources and recheck yours.

...wow, that hurt, I am sure...

I was thinking about my post when I went to bed last night Bum.  I need to mention that the County Highway Department does an outstanding job on plowing the roads and maintaining them in the summer.  They are awesome to work with and I really can't say enough good things about the Director, Joe Ryan.  The County engineers are great too.

You should be lucky you have Judy D and Tony J the snake to do what they are paid to do and if you ruin the system with this crazy board of directors scheme then you are gonna lose all of the roads and the workers out there

I know the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors in Schoharie and will schedule a meeting with him to gather information.

Hey, Rene, when you have a little free time, could you give us a little bit of a rundown of how you understand the Board of Supervisors to run?  You stated that you know the Chairman of the Board in Schoharie.  Is this a separate position, possibly elected county wide?  Is it one of the supervisors from inside the county?  If it's the latter, how is it decided, a vote by all supervisors in the county?

I am all for allowing the current set-up (and that's exactly what it is) to go to the wayside and allow a Board of Supervisors to take it's place.  In fact, understanding that it would be additional time that the supervisors would have to put in, I would even be in favor of an additional raise for the Town of Rotterdam Supervisor should we go to this format.

You all know that I was on the committee to consider the raises for the town board members.  I am sorry that I was lackluster in my taking part in that, as I got sidetracked and never really got back onto it.  I would say that if this does go through, we could look at this fully again to see what compensation might be needed for the supervisor (again, I will only say for Rotterdam, since that is where I am a resident) for the added duties.

I don't know that we're a big enough town to consider a full-time Supervisor, but if we were to pay a rate which drew the right crowd, we could really cut costs and make major improvements.
