A 26-year-old Rotterdam native was killed Jan. 25 when the car she was driving hit a patch of snow and slid into a tree in Bergen, Genesee County.
Rosa Guida grew up in Rotterdam and graduated from Mohonasen High School in 1999. She moved to the Rochester area to attend SUNY Geneseo, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2003. Guida also earned a master's degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2005.
The Bergen resident was a physicians assistant at Geneva General Hospital in Ontario County.
"She never did anything wrong; she was the perfect child," said Caterina Sgueglia of Rotterdam, Guida's cousin. "She was very much into her work and taking care of people."
Guida died in one of five fatal car wrecks in western New York last week. State Police said Guida slid off a road in Bergen around 12:30 p.m. after hitting a patch of snow.
She lost control of her vehicle, which went down an embankment and struck a tree. Police said Guida was not wearing her seat belt, and speed was a factor in the accident.
She is survived by her parents, Antonio and Caterina Guida; a sister, Anna Maria; brother, Biagio; boyfriend, Luke Giannone; and grandmother, Rosa DiLorenzo.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral service will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by a burial Mass at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Bradt Street, Schenectady.
