Boy Scout leader
charged with abuse

AUBURN — A former Boy Scout leader has been accused of molesting two Scouts at his home and at a Scout camp.
Charles Seamans, 46, of Weedsport, was charged in Throop Town Court with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and two counts of second-degree sexual abuse. He was being held in the Cayuga County Jail on $15,000 cash bail, or $30,000 bond.
Cayuga County Sheriff’s Lt. Joseph Weeks said the abuse occurred over an 18-month period while both victims were scouts in Seamans’ troop, Troop 43 in Auburn, and both were younger than 13. Seamans, who is single, abused the two boys at his home on visits unrelated to scouting, Weeks said.
Seamans resigned his post as assistant Scoutmaster on Jan. 9, a day before the parents of one of the Scouts contacted the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department. Weeks said the resignation was not related to the alleged abuse. Seamans had been a Scout leader for about nine years, Weeks said.
