doesn't make sense. Cops would respond to dog fighting call and have Animal control come to handle dogs,
but COPS would have lead, not animal control!

bb...waited to see what others had to say....not true....did this happen in this town in the last few years??...

do you live in this Town??....do you really know what an ACO does??....then you volunteer for the job.

The Town residents do not know much about the workings of anything ...much less that people are the problem and not the animals...but someone has to
take care that tickets are issued for any violation of protection for the Town....

you just don't get it...it's always about the money and what you stated is a waste of time and money.....I would like to see one resident stand up and say
yes...the ACO is needed....for the pittance of compensation for this person  to go out in the middle of the night to save ANY animal is worth it....to pick up dead animals that may be infected with disease...
If it's such a cake job ...then why isn't anyone doing it....
You need to get a life or run for politics....sounds like you would make a good candidate and this Town would be rich and flourishing...and without all these apartments...

I'm still asking what happened to Tim Longo who was doing that job in January. Did he quit or get let go?

the fact of the matter is.....IT IS A VERY VERY TRUE STORY!!!!!

it is irrelevant when it happened....the fact is that it did.

realistically......how many calls would an animal control person get a year in a town like ROTTENdam?

100.....500.....1000.....5000??????

it would seem that cops could and should handle most of the animal issues.....especially in a small town like ROTTENdam.

or....perhaps retired cops could donate their time....kinda give back to their community....since the community is STILL paying their life long benefits....if it's that dangerous of a situation....yes?

bb you are kidding of course....no one wants to pick up the dead animals...NO ONE...and no one will volunteer.....no one wants to catch
a pit bull..no one wants to make sure a fox doesn't harm an animal or human.......NO  ONE get it....volunteer or not...

present this to the Board...I would love to see what happens and how many people are in line...
oh if nothing was done BB then why didn't they call the STATE POLICE...go to the top...report it to the news..those are the kinds of people that don't do anything but start and don't finish what they deem a law breaker.
...
****************************************************************************************************************
rtrac......no he didn't quit...no he wasn't let go....the facts are what I reported in my first post....i'ts a freakin' game with this town....everything is a game....people who owe people...people who don't like people who stand up for their rights when treated unfairly or disrespectfully.

regardless of this small town no one takes care of their pets .....and what no one seems to understand...ANIMALS of any specie have rights too....

and it is more important to take care of the double whamers  and those who cheat the system....then have what is needed......and those who have their
"CAKE" jobs handed to them and they don't even know what they are doing....so a consultant is needed.....yeah right....

So support this or not.....but it takes one person to stand up and say no more...

sooooooooooooooo.....how many 'animal emergency' calls does ROTTENdam get that warrants an animal control person?

.........and as far as ROTTENdam being corrupt...game playing.....favors blah blah blah.....do  you think this is something new???????????????

it isn't called ROTTENdam for nuthin'!

again........cops are more than equipped to handle animal issues.
they are already on duty(three staffed shifts)...already getting paid....and 'well' equipped.

since you decided to bring Guilderland into the conversation...................

Quoted Text

The Guilderland Animal Control unit is overseen by the police department and is staffed with two full time civilian Animal Control Officers who are responsible for handling all animal related calls in the town. The ACO's also act as first response officers for the Albany County Department of Health and New York State Environmental Conservation (ENCON). Animal Control Officers enforce those laws as well as town of Guilderland ordinances, and Agriculture and Markets laws.

In addition to enforcing ordinances and other laws, the Animal Control Officers also perform other duties including, removing injured or deceased animals from town roads and handling other animal calls including dogs running at large.

The Animal Control Officers maintain the Richard Murray Guilderland Animal Shelter located at 6363 Frenches Mill Rd in Guilderland Center across from the Guilderland Highway Dept.

The Shelter hours are 10:00 A.M.- 3:30 P.M. on Monday through Friday and 9:00 A.M. - 1 P.M. Saturday & Sunday for those seeking to find a lost pet, or adopt a new one. During those hours emergency calls will sometimes require staff to be in other locations. Those planning on visiting the shelter are encouraged to call prior to coming.

BB

..
(!).you have your facts all wrong....regarding the fighting pit bulls....that did not occur here in Rotterdam....there were pit bulls left in a home without
supervision and were taken away without incident...I sure would like to see the incident number for this complaint... A foil would be good.

(2) imagine this scenario....the ACO gets a call at 2 or 3 in the morning....someone has notified the police that a welfare check cannot be done by a family member  because the elderly  owner's dog won't let the police in...he is protecting his master...the ACO is called to subdue the animal..rather than put it
down....The ACO arrived and with a bit of a struggle manages to subdue the animal...and no one was hurt or bitten.   Unfortunately, the person had
already passed away...it was a sad night for all...

.My question  to you.....what if this has been any close relative e.g., mother, father, your child, siblings......wouldn't you want someone to come in and take charge ?......and without incident?   if you have a negative answer then you do not understand or care about animals....people who have
pets treat them as a member of the family...and evidently, you have no compassion or empathy understanding anything about what it is to be humanly
involved.....The rights of this animal was respected and protected.....and the ACO saved the night...

End of story.....have a nice day

Maybe MO just can see through the BS you are peddling! Your scenario is just not believable!

Do we need an ACO? Can the cops handle 95% of the incidents that come up sure, and with some training the officers can learn the techniques of handling wildlife while being provided with the equipment needed in their patrol cars to do that job, I think we pay them enough that they could pick up a little more duty.

The caveat with that scenario is when you get idiots like my neighbors calling in reports of scary looking birds (turkeys) walking through their yard.....maybe a salaried ACO would be more cost efficient? Maybe? No lie folks they moved in to their new MCMansion and called twice, the office told them that their home is located on land that they pass through and explained that they had two options move or put up 50 foot fences (the latter is against town code)

And why is an ACO picking up dead bodies from the roads doesn't this fall under the Highway department?

And if police were doing as you say, then there would be those that complain the police  are wasting taxpayer
money by managing animal issues instead of looking for the bad guys. Catch 22.
