Schenectady police say they're investigating a triple shooting at 10 Shirley Drive.
Police responded to the scene at 1:13 a.m. Tuesday.
Police say the three male victims, between the ages of 20 and 22, were found shot in a downstairs apartment and taken to Albany Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Sergeant Matt Dearing tells us no arrests have been made, saying "we have some preliminary information but to speak to whether the suspect is in custody, not in custody, an individual shot or not, it’s still very early on in the investigation to tell but officers will be here for the remainder of the day.”
Police say Shirley Drive is shut down from just past Hoffman's Car Wash to Alice Street, as they continue their investigation.
NewsChannel 13 is at the scene and will bring you the latest developments.

Thanks to CDTA and Wal-Mart, the city just keeps expanding to, and past, it's borders.  No area is safe.

On my street alone, there's a certified Schizophrenic, a sex offender, an untreated bipolar, suicidal 65 yr old man, the family of a murderer, and who knows what else.  My street is only about 5 blocks long, and I'm in Rotterdam.

we live in very very troubled times....don't expect it to get any better anytime soon.
and don't expect Gov Almighty to resolve these issues.
Gov Almighty just throws money (mind altering drugs and social programs) at a problem with NEVER a resolve.

I well understand it's an illness, but the actions of the person, with the illness, are what I'm concerned with.

Harry you have a lot of nerve. "Certified Schizophrenic"  "Untreated Bipolar" "Suicidal 65 year old" since when does a person lose being a person and IS the illness.

I am sure people do not go around saying "oh, I want to have Schizophrenia when I turn 21, or Bipolar when I turn 21.  These are illnesses. A person does not become the illness. "they have" the illness.

There is a human being there that you are completely overlooking.  What is this "Certified" crap. What makes you so sure the person with the Bipolar illness is not under treatment.

You heard thru the grapevine the person has a history of treatment for the Bipolar illness and someone said they are not being treated, right away you go spouting off and the person is now referred to as the "Bipolar".  When did they stop being a human being, a person who "has an illness" they "are not" the illness... "they have" the illness.

What the hell happened to the person, when did they stop being a person.

I hope and pray no one in your family ever gets a thought disorder like Schizophrenia or a mood disorder like "Bipolar" because there are folks like you out there that will now see them as less then.  There are folks like you out there that no longer see your loved one as a person, but just a illness.

You are cold hearted when referring to that "suicidal 65 year old" as a "suicidal 65 year old".  What happened to being a person....a human being  "who is experiencing depression and is suicidal".

It is stigma from folks like you that cause people to shy away from adequate mental health care in case a neighbor or landlord hears they are being treated for a thought disorder like Schizophrenia or mood disorder like Bipolar or Depression

You should be ashamed of yourself, you are so clueless you are not even aware of how Rotterdam New York had played an important role in changing Medicaid mental health laws in regards to mental health treatment for our youth. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy%27s_Law Timothy's Law.

State insurance laws were changed to cover children after the suicide of a young lad from Rotterdam.  His father Tom O'Clair is now a prominent advocate for mental health and wellness so we do not lose any more innocent young lives because NYS Medicaid would not pay for his son to get treatment for his depression after their health insurance ran out.

Why are you pointing out a family who happens to have a member of it that was a convicted murderer.  What did they have to do with something that they were not a part of.  They are not responsible for the murderers behavior, they didn't do the killing.

In regards to sex offenders on that matter we do have to be aware of where they live, they are predators and we have to protect our women and children.

May is mental health month.  I hope this little post of mine helps some in reducing the stigma caused by folks like Harry P.  Schizophrenia and Bipolar are illnesses, just like Epilepsy or Alzheimer or the various Dementias are.  They are illnesses found in the brain.

A great place to learn more about mental health and get help for  family members and friends of those with mental illnesses can be found at the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)  http://www.naminys.org/nys/

I want to address the one aspect of HarryP's post  the "sex offender" part separate from all the other identifiers he mentions. A "sex offender" is a person too but they are a "Convicted Criminal" identified by the crimes they were convicted of in order to protect the society around them.

Those with a mental illness are not criminals, nor convicted in a court of law for having a mental illness.

i understand your concern. We have many many friends or family of friends...both young and adults that have what the government labels 'mental illlness'.

sure they are prescribed meds to counter the government labeled 'mental illness'..........BUT..........many skip or stop taking their meds all together....we know this first hand!!!

we personally know a woman with a 45 year old son...labeld skiz/bipolar.

he refuses to take his meds...don't like the way he feels.

he was living with the mom and dad....he woke up during the night and went in their bedroom and pulled his mom out of bed by the hair.

they had to call the cops.

he now lives in an apt. by himself and his mom (dad died recently) pays ALL of his bills.

she said she can't have him live with her cause she fears for her safety.

it is a living hell for the mom....understandably.

HOWEVER.....i understand your concern as we know many that are in the same boat.

not to mention that some of these drugs are worse than the 'labeled illness'.

and i'm sure we can all agree that there are degrees of this labeled illness.

and i'm sure we all know that ALL mass shooters were on 'legal mind altering drugs'.

with that said....i'm sure with that knowledge alone....we can all agree that being concerned is understandable.
