Excerpt:

Hull won’t appear as Alliance candidate

Mayoral hopeful: Board made ‘egregious error’

  BY HALEY VICCARO Gazette Reporter

Alliance Party founder Roger Hull will not have the party’s designation on the ballot this year in his race for Schenectady mayor.
Hull says he failed to accept the nomination, despite receiving more than enough signatures, because the Schenectady County Board of Elections did not send him notice to do so.

“It is something that bothers me because of the fact that 920 people signed and we spent a lot of time getting those signatures,” he said. “I’ll take responsibility, but it’s something that I feel was an egregious error on the part of the board.”

The Schenectady County Board of Elections typically sends notice to candidates with the deadline to accept or decline a nomination. But the commissioners did not send a notice to Hull or City Council candidates Vince Riggi, Mike Cuevas, Tom Verret and Ann Rigley.

“We did not send a letter telling them that they had to decline or accept by a certain date,” Democratic Election Commissioner Amy Hild said. “It was an oversight.”

The board is not required to send notice, despite it being common practice, according to state Board of Elections spokesman John Conklin.    [/quote]

I'll bet the board made sure they send them to the Dem candidates.

Quoted Text
Hull could not have the Alliance Party as a separate line because, according to state Election Law, he cannot have more than two major party     lines on the ballot. He will be running on the Republican and Conservative lines, along with the Reform line.

I don't quite understand the above, because the below, how can McCarthy have so many lines, it would have been nice if the gazette explained it.?

Quoted Text
In the general election, McCarthy is running on the Democratic, Independence, Working Families and Women’s Equality party lines.

Quoted Text
Hull said because he founded the party he didn’t know he had to accept the nomination.
“I founded the Alliance Party and I was under the impression that a member of the party does not have to accept the nomination,” he said. “There was error all around. But given the fact that I am the candidate, I will take responsibility.”

For whatever it's worth, nice that Hull admits some responsibility, but why did the BOE (acting only with a Dem commissioner)  refuse to send notices to the other non Dem candidates? It would be nice if the reporter found out if the board send notices to Dem candidates.

Yes, let's see what happens at the high school this year to affect the election.

this is also what happens when a town clerk fails to send in appropriate papers on time when instructed by a town board or a town
supervisor....

'oversights' tend to be purposeful...

"you had one job to do"  it's the BOE specialty.....really?

I think that Hull will give away half of downtown to the colleges and will bring in lots of businesses to the tax free zones surrounding the colleges.

Making the homeowners share of the tax levy even higher.

Half the BoE staff are Republican and half are Democrats.  The Republican BoE Commissioner is just as powerful and responsible for what goes on at the BoE as the Democratic BoE Commissioner.

Oh -- and to the person who brought up the town clerk, town supervisor and town board?  WTF does that have to do with the topic?   None of those officials from any of the towns in the county has anything to do with an election being held in the city.  But as a matter of clarification -- a town clerk is elected SEPARATELY and DISTINCTLY from the town supervisor and the town board.   A town clerk does not work FOR the supervisor and the board.  The town clerk has separate functions that are self-directed as well as other functions where the town clerk works WITH the supervisor and the board.

Schenectady has ceased to 'light and move the world'.....it is a college town with artsy-fartsy stuff and gin mills.....

what is a college town supposed to look like and are the economic positives/negatives.....growth/progression etc....?

AND you truly believe the TC has never done anything at the direction of the Bufardi administration/McGuirl/other boards and department to hamper (or slip through for friends and family) any processes controlled by her office?????

And to believe so just confirms that you are a buffoon.

There is a difference between an independent party line and a minor party line. Roger Hull won a write in to secure the Conservative line over the endorsed candidate and he couldn't have taken the
Alliance line. Of course, DEM hacks here and in the Gazetto are trying to make political hay out of a mistake at the Board of Elections office. Easier than finding accomplishments-no? The same talking
points in Issacson's letter and DVOR prewritten corn. Hull/Riggi/Verret/Cuevas will all be on the Conservative/Reform AND REP lines. The lovely Ann Rigley will be on the REP AND Reform lines.
Anyone that thinks that Row X is better than Row C doesn't know much about politics.
