"Sunlight in straight in the eyes" could NOT have been a factor in the accident.   Erie Boulevard -- despite what some people have erroneously stated - does not run in a straight line from east to west ... heading from Freeman's Bridge to GE, The road is actually traveling from  from northeast   to southwest.   State Street is actually going from northwest to southeast.  In the late fall and early spring - it is possible that afternoon sun could be an issue -- but not in midsummer.
Check Google Earth --- it shows BOTH the accuracy of my statements regarding directions AND the FACT that there were only 2 eastbound and 2 westbound lanes (legally established and striped) and PERPENDICULAR parking on both sides.  At intersections - there were additional turning lanes -- but NEVER 8 lanes.

Erie Boulevard is NOT a hazard.  Bad drivers are a hazard.  Attention-seeking  nayboobs are a hazard.  Uninformed posts from nayboobs are a hazard.

You might want to be a little more respectful regarding this issue, as well as most other topics as well.

You are quite an insensitive little fucck for someone who works for the church.

Now DV thinks he is an expert at direction of the sun.

Then he THINKS he is an expert at reading maps.  But remember how he REFUSED to accept the FACT that BOTH churches where he works are IN Niskayuna PER THE TAX MAP WHICH IS THE OFFICIAL DOCUMENT of the county.  (except maybe a floor tile within the city).

   ROFLMAO  ! ! !

Everyone really needs to read CAREFULLY what this IDIOT DV wrote.  Again, DV's words EXACTLY

Hey, um DV. the word "were" is PAST TENSE.    Google does NOT have an image of Erie Blvd in the past.  But the photos I posted ABSOLUTELY CLEARLY show MORE THAN TWO LANES in each direction PLUS the parking.

DV, you said there were "additional turning lanes," but then you said "NEVER 8 lanes."  DO YOU KNOW HOW TO COUNT????????   Look at the photo below and tell me how many eastbound lanes there were.   Can you READ?????   Can you READ the words "Lane 1", "Lane 2," "Lane 3," and "Lane 4."  Can you CLEARLY see the light green line in the mille of the road separating eastbound from west bound??????   Can you see that.  Probably you need glasses if you can't.  Then can you see the three red arrows showing the separation of the lanes?   THERE ARE FOUR !!!!

We'd have to see the intersection westbound, a photo, but I'd think there were at least 3, maybe 4 with turning.  And 4 + 4 = 8!

And just FYI, if you can see the photo well enough, the lanes were not striped back then.  So if cars are driving 3 of 4 wide, obviously they couldn't be ticketed for not driving in a designated lane because it is CLEAR that there was no actual designation, but it is also ABSOLUTELY CLEAR that Erie was "8 lanes side PLUS the space for perpendicular parking on both sides."  Notice, MY WORDS were "8 lanes wide."    I'm talking the width, i.e., the number of feet, yards, etc.

We are getting ready to leave for the famous race.  I will PROVE to you that the WIDTH is 8 lanes.  I will crop the pic and show you westbound 4 lanes wide!

The government can do no wrong in the eyes of DVOR in Schenectady.

All the changes they have made for over 50 years and it is still failing to be self sufficient.

New businesses downtown can't survive without government assistance.

The failures of downtown correlate exactly with the narrowing of all the streets, the redirection of streets and one ways added.

Plus turning Jay St into a walkway was a business killing disaster.

The outrageous poverty and crime is a result of the excessive taxation.

The excessive taxation wasn't caused by the poverty and crime.

Myself, I consider the taxation of the homeowners to supply millionaires with welfare to be the real crime.

you are mixing apples and oranges here.

first....poverty and crime is not a result of excessive taxation.
many folks just plan old don't want to work and some are mentally challenged and can't.
excessive taxes have nothing to do with that.

second...i agree that downtown is being supported by tax money...but it's not a cause for crime.

third...the 'elected' government does what the government does.
if ya don't like it....MOVE!

third...i can't believe you folks are actually victimizing yourselves over a ROAD!!!!

i suppose the road is also contributing to crime!!!

Who are you to tell people whether they should move or not, bt?
Nobody is victimizing himself or herself over a road. This is a discussion board where nothing is to be discussed? What's the point?
I'm very concerned at the horrible waste of money on a crap project that made a stretch of road dangerous, so dangerous that two good people lost their lives. Just what do you deign worthy of concern, and why should I care?
Good Lord.
Excessive taxation leads to homeowner exodus, rundown properties, influx of slumlords, you know, the "broken window" theory in action. Large pockets of poverty next to wealth, always leads to high crime. There ya go.

Discussion??? LOL This isn't a discussion, it's a freaking witch hunt!! A chance for all the usual suspects to piss and moan and whine and blame a road for two deaths. Plus they all get to lob insults at their favorite punching bag to boot. Me, I'm waiting for the toxicology reports before I start blaming a freaking road. Discussion, LOL, is that really what you think this is?

Being as the people hit the curb, which as has been noted, was a poor design, I do blame the road.
Unless they died from a toxic substance, the toxicology report changes nothing.
OMG, people DIED, and nobody is supposed to "moan"? PEOPLE DIED.
Oh, you think the board isn't for discussions too, bt? What is it for then? Opinions you approve of, or what? Or just name-calling?

Freaking witch hunt??? Yeah, right...  Here's some discussion for ya....
I purposely went down Erie blvd tonight on my bike, which is the almost the same model of the one the couple was on...I purposely traveled it at 30 mph and then at 38 mph....
My impressions? Even at 30 mph, the elevation changes in the road, combined with the right turn, unloads the suspension more than I expected.
The unloading caused me to drift a little farther left than I wanted to. At 38 mph, which was the second attempt, I knew what was coming, and still drifted out about the same as 30 mph, probably because I was so much farther right in the lane than before.

My final thoughts? I think everything contributed to the crash, the speed, the intersection, and median.
My suspension unloaded pretty good and I am 185lbs with gear... He was a good size guy and she wasn't small.. I  conservatively say 350lbs...That increased weight effects the suspension and maneuverability of the bike in a negative fashion.
One thing I am sure of... if the Median was not there and Erie was at it's previous configuration, there is no curb to hit and there's a good chance that couple is still alive.

So you are stating that excessive taxation does not cause crime or poverty?

Well you are blatantly wrong about poverty. Because over-taxation does create poverty.

Unless of course you can show me where no amount of over-taxation has ever caused poverty.

While this statement is sometimes true, it is not justification for the previous premise.

Because for some insane reason you don't believe that overtaxed people turn to crime.

Let's discuss those people who were overtaxed and became terrorist insurgents.

You probably know them by their self declared patriotic title called the founding fathers.

They became criminals over 3% taxation.

Obviously people don't like it and they can't simply flush their fuckking lifetime investment down the Schenectady toilet.

Apparently you are wealthier than most of the rest of us that you see throwing away a home as an acceptable option.

Quoted from bumblethru

We aren't victimizing ourselves. You are demonizing our legitimate right to protest, criticize and express ourselves. We are complaining about taxes and wasteful spending on things that are dangerous and impractical. Created solely for the same wealthy people who the city's millions while the city was rampaging to take homes, that they couldn't even afford ton demolish, just to find a few more scraps to give to the corporate elite.  The path of decay in downtown follows the path of tax increases and home foreclosures.

You just choose to rant as always telling everyone to shut up or get out.

Quoted from bumblethru

i suppose the road is also contributing to crime!!!

I'm always puzzled why you have a Libertarian avatar.

My opinion, is that the opinions that you are expressing, are very far from Libertarian.

To me you are acting the same as DVOR, blaming and demonizing the people who are expressing their frustration over corporate welfare, wasteful spending and catering to the opinions of the corporate gin mills and not giving a crap about the 40,000 people who travel through this funnel town.(toilet)

I can't believe that BT can't understand that taxing people out of their homes could lead to poverty and crime.

We don't tell people to shut up, or stop your nayboob whining and just let the elite take every taxpayer dollar in existence.

Downtown before the 50 year makeover could handle well over 100,000 commuters a day.

Now they have successfully driven out GE, and tens of thousands of jobs with their excessive taxing and spending.

People avoid downtown like the plague.

Except for those that the new gin mills and Proctors cater to.

They wear blinders as they travel from outside the city to go to these businesses.

I'm thinking of something Mark Chaires said, how when he was growing up on Hamilton Hill most of the families he knew owned their own homes. The murder and major crime rate back then was statistical zero.
I noticed that even as the city declined, the watershed moment, the death knell, was when the city council voted to raise taxes on property owners nearly 25 percent at one shot. From that day forward, the crime rate snowballed, the city's deterioration accelerated at a shocking rate; the city became worse by the day.
You only have high taxes with low crime in isolated enclaves of the very wealthy.

In case you haven't noticed, people have been upset about taxes and the wasteful replacement of easily traveled roads throughout downtown in favor of corporate business parking, for a very long time.

Taking thousands of homes from the poor while giving millions to the rich is a valid complaint, not a witch hunt at all.

Just keep blaming the poor for the astronomical unpayable debts the city has accumulated, through corporate welfare and excessive spending and excessive taxation.

Free market and fair taxes paid evenly by all is a fuckking foreign language to these dolts.

And that is why there is no GE, no plastics companies, a greatly reduced Schenectady Chemicals, no small businesses except for those who get welfare/exemptions.

I'm not imagining witches, the debt, the crime, the manufacturing jobs and the urban decay are products of over-taxation.

Call it whatever you want.

I'll stop when they stop taking money from me by force.

You work 40 years or more to face tax increases that may force you to lose your home if left to continue in this same manner.

When we were young the government lived within their means.

2 family homes were hot properties because the second floor would pay your mortgage and the taxes, and you get a house for very little money out of your own pocket.

Now due to excessive taxation, 2 family houses are worthless as investment properties unless you are buying one to rent both floors out and pay no taxes and do no repairs or maintenance, resulting in slumlord profiteering until the city takes the property.

Dumping another 50 million dollars into downtown will only make the crime, poverty and over-taxation all continue climb.

We have nearly the highest taxes in the country.

The city couldn't pay off all their debts and commitments in a hundred years.

The fuckking answer is to stop spending money that you don't have, not find new creative ways to get more than the actual budget.

It costs over $150,000 a year to put people in prison.

Targeting and arresting the poor only makes things worse.

Like Mike/Christine does every day using sarcasm.

Stop calling taxing the poor to line the pockets of the rich, a renaissance.

It's carefully extracted thievery.

f*** them million dollar islands.

They are one block away from homeless island out front of the greyhound station where the homeless gather every single day, and take shifts begging at the stoplights by SCC.
