COEYMANS — Police have identified the body found in a shallow grave near Tracey Road last Thursday as a 24-year-old Schenectady woman who was missing since last December.

Shelby Countermine was confirmed as the woman who believed to be the victim of a homicide, said Coeymans police officials.

Her remains were found on what was believed to be city of Albany property, according to people with knowledge of the situation.

State Police and the town's police department were investigating what the sources told the Times Union is most likely a murder.

Countermine was last seen on Dec. 3 on Crane Street, Schenectady, according to a relative's post on Facebook page.

This is very sad. Condolences to her parents.
Anya Tucker of channel 10 said that Crane Street, where the young lady was last seen alive, was "known for drugs and being down and out". I don't know why she felt she needed to add that bit of local color.

Because it's TRUE?

Is it "true", bt, or is it Anya Tucker's impression, and even if it is "true", there are a lot of facts about that area that she didn't bother to impart. I've known people to venture into that area to visit local businesses, to attend church, or just because that is their home. What does "known for being down and out" even MEAN? This woman was last seen in a bad neighborhood. Plenty of young women who never step foot into Schenectady end up murdered, it's a common crime, really. I feel like Ms. Tucker was implying a value judgment on this young woman's worth. "Last seen on Crane Street, in Schenectady was enough relevant information. She could have, and should have, stopped right there.

I think it was a value judgement that this poor girl  most likely was not just abducted off the streets, but instead got heraldic involved in something and was in over her head. It helps put the community at ease that they won't just be snatched off the street also.

It's only a few blocks from my house and it is an awful area.

That's my point, parent. I'm fully aware of what Crane Street is like. There was an undertone to Ms. Tucker's uncalled for remarks. It isn't her place as a reporter to "put the community at ease" by smearing this crime victim.
When we have yet another stabbing or shooting, the male victims are always somehow honor students, choirboys, and great dads.

The woman was about to be sentenced in January for second degree robbery. Considering her disappearance was always thought to be connected to the people she was associated with, I would hardly say what was said was a smear.

Condolences to the parents and friends of this victim.....can we honor her and not trash who she was....but who she may have been??.....we are not perfect

but she did not deserve to die this way and put away like trash.

The media and critics love to analyze and state what they "think" is relevant....Rest in peace ....

Patchy.....no one is saying ANYTHING that isn't true or public information.
The discussion here is that crane st aka mt pleasant is a sh!thole!
And that is PUBLIC INFORMATION!!
When was the last time you drove all the way down crane?
From Altamont to broadway!!!
Dirty diapers on the sidewalks, garbage cans EVERYWHERE, broken windows, roof shingles half off....blah blah blah!
It is also common knowledge that there are drug dealers who reside in that area....FACT!!!
I find it rather refreshing to hear the TRUTH about Schenectady being told via the media!!!

I am certainly not trashing her. This is well known information about her, and about the activity in that area. It certainly does not mean anyone thinks that she deserved to have had this tragic ending, but analyzing her actions and the actions in that area are the most likely way to find what exactly happened. Pretending that she was an upstanding citizen who went to bible study every evening is not going to flesh out what happened to her.

Anya Tucker isn't a detective. Police DON"T KNOW what happened to the woman. Plenty of women who attend bible study end up dead, and plenty of women who involve themselves with unsavory characters don't.
Like I said, they don't do this with the males who get involved in feuds. Anya's job wasn't to do a travelogue on Schenectady. Since hundreds of women live in and venture outside in that area, and live to tell of it, it is pretty much irrelevant to her case. A person or persons killed her, not a street.

Thank you Madam X.....it's a shame that this young girl gets second notice...while the city gets the first....what I am saying is that if you want to trash the

city...use another blog....one side of peeps mouths say their condolences...while the other side shouts trash....I don't like the way anyone is put down

after death....it's a shame about how wrong choices are made.....but for the sake of being compassionate. trashing this young girl doesn' get anywhere

but put more disrespect in those left behind......

and as a footnote....there are some who make wrong choices and they are not disrespected after death.....it's who you know to keep things quiet...

Rest in peace Shelby.
