The community really came together to support the Jay Street Fire Victims.  They still have needs and will need our prayers, assistance and our understanding presence in the months ahead.  As these 70+ people struggle to get back on their feet again. we have another 20+ people who were made homeless by a fire on Albany Street.  If you want to assist - contact the Salvation Army.   They are accepting donations of clothing (they especially need socks and underwear for adults) and financial contributions.
When the chips are down, Schenectady is a generous and supportive community.  That is why I consider it a privilege and the greatest joy of my life to be a Schenectadian.  All that is good about our community will ALWAYS have the power to overcome whatever is negative, bad or broken in our community.

it's great that the community is coming together....BUT....what responsibility does the city code enforcers share since they gave the building a green light JUST THE DAY BEFORE?

Look at DV!   Look at him trying to make himself out to be the ultimate do-gooder.   ROFLMAO!!!!!!!

DV the BIG (in more ways than one) HYPOCRITE

If you want to assist - contact the Salvation Army.   They are accepting ... financial contributions.

How about "If you want to assist, how about calling upon the tax exempt super wealthy political cronies of the city/co/plex"

Where is Galesi?   The residents of these burned out buildings were renters so basically they were taxpayers.   Therefore the residents of these burned out buildings are paying for the demolition of the old DSS building that Galesi owns.  These people are paying for much of the new and the renovated buildings for Galesi.  They are paying a good chunk of Galesi's property taxes.

So DV, tell us WHY isn't Galesi renting out his apartments to these people who were burned out?

Well?    Answer?    A BILLIONAIRE getting MULTIMILLIONS from the taxpayers in Schenectady but the billionaire does  not help those who make him richer.

Where is Buicko?   You alluded to meeting him--at least your comments that he's a nice person seemed to indicate that--so tell us, where is Buicko?  Just how nice is he?

Buicko REFUSES to live ANYWHERE IN the COUNTY of Schenectady but is lavished with money by the people who were burned out.   In return for getting richer, Buicko won't rent to these people?

DV, how about instead of you calling for the poor to help their neighbors, how about you call for the rich political cronies of the city/co/plex to help these people?

The poor in Schenectady are stretched thin, yet they will still help.   Where is the tax exempt King Phillip and his lavish tax exempt for-profit banquet hall? How come King Phillip isn't serving meals to these people at his lavish banquet hall?

How come the tax exempt Hampton Inn, built with money from these burned out people, hasn't come to their rescue to house them?

And yes, let's see if you have the guts to explain why your beloved McCarthy's own code enforcement employees allowed these people to live in such dangerous conditions.   How about you answer that?

It's very disgusting that certain people have to politicize EVERY thread - especially one that deals with a rather serious and tragic event.  This thread is NOT about me and it definitely is NOT about a certain self-important, selfish troll who thinks EVERYTHING is about him/her.

The message of this thread is that we have a great community.  Hundreds and hundreds of folks who came forward to help their neighbors (70+) in need.  Those neighbors in need and 20+ more really do need our continued assistance.  Who gives a damn about politics when almost 100 people are homeless and literally lost everything except their lives?   Some things in life - actually most things in life - are more important than politics - especially the petty brand of politics that occurs on this board.

So just passing the message - thanks to all who have given a helping hand and just letting everyone know that  there is still more that we can do to help.  No judgement - do what you can - even if it is just offering a prayer - Have a great day.

It has been a beautiful, sunny spring day in the City-County of Schenectady.  That sense of RENAISSANCE and rebirth is overwhelming present all throughout our wonderful community.
The BEST is yet to come!!!!!!!!

The millionaire political cronies of your beloved McCarthy don't give a rats a** about these burned out taxpayers who pay the taxes of these millionaires, and you don't utter one word of criticism for the downtown rich taking from the taxpayers and not giving anything in return.

Typical DV, avoid discussing the TRUTH.   The taxpayers are supposed to pay for the rich and give help their burned out neighbors, the burned out neighbors are supposed to struggle AND provide for the downtown rich, and the downtown rich don't have to give anything to these people and you won't even criticize them.   HYPOCRITE!

There you go, AGAIN, posting the same lame  babble.    The downtown millionaires don't do a thing to help these people and you REFUSE to criticize them.   Why is that, DV???????   WHY?????

Why do you REFUSE to call upon Metroplex to help?????   Huh?   Why?

And the TRUTH is that what is negative, bad, and/or broken is that millionaires downtown (political cronies of the local community leaders) are NOT GIVING ONE PENNY BACK to the community.

The ONLY help these poor people are getting comes EXCLUSIVELY from the pocket of their fellow poor and/or common people of the city.

The downtown millionaires take from the taxpayers, do NOT give ANYTHING back to these people, and YOU, DV, YOU do not criticize these millionaires at all.

The millionaires take from the community, continue annually to cause a MASSIVE REDUCTION in the city's tax base, and they NEVER give back and YOU, DV, see fit to cheer for the actions of the rich.

DV, would you care to address, do you have the GUTS to respond to the question "why didn't the mayor's code people allow these poor people to live in a dangerous building?"   Oh, you won't answer that because you are a BIG (in more ways than one) COWARD.

Looks like the Golubs are hosting a 25k fundraiser, they'll match up to that amount. Let's see if any of these big wheels step up. Lots of people with barely
more then a pot to piss in have already stepped up.

That's nice of Golub, regardless of whether you like to shop at the supermarket they own or not.

Yes, the poor have stepped up to help the poor.

How about the tax exempt rich stepping up to help these poor people?   Where is the criticism of the tax exempt?
