I was told the time to OPT OUT OF THE YARD WASTE TAX was in January when we received our tax statements.  I don't see anything listed
here on how to opt out.  Does anyone know how?  I'd rather not call the town since they were rude to me last year when I was too late to opt
out then.

I didn't use my waste privilege once last year but I did invite my neighbors to use my front yard.  When are they coming out to pick up the
Christmas trees I see scattered about?

the only waste 'privilege' is the use of one's septic tank....other wise the waste fee is extortion at it's 'legal best'.......

The government service opt-out is kinda like the guy that takes advantage of the drunk girl.  If she didn't say no, it must mean yes.  It's the governments version of date rape.

Not taking sides on opt out or not, we know a few people who opted out and others who are having town pick up yard waste.

But wondering if this year they will allow people to pay electronically, last year this was not possible, and some people we know don't use paper checks at all which requires them to them either drive to town hall probably losing time at work, or pay to buy a money order.  The taxes and the water fee can be paid online.

Then if you opted out last year and your house was "marked", and this year you choose to have the town pick up your yard waste, how is that mark removed?  I've seen the "mark" but out for morning (or evening) runs or cycling, never thought to notice if we passed one, is it stuck on like tape, is it painted on so how would it be removed?

If you've opted out, does that mean you've also opted out of having your Christmas tree (if you use a real one) picked up.  Curious because do the town employees memorize each house that has opted out?  If yard waste is never at the curb during April through September perhaps because someone does not bag grass clippings, the employees might be so familiar with "ignoring" a certain house that they might want to pass it by when the leaves are put at the curb in October.  Granted at that point the employees can look and see the lack of "the mark."   But in winter, the "mark" might be covered with snow.  I'd think common sense would prevail and just pick up the tree for crying out loud.

Lastly, what about trees being picked up, has anyone experienced that?  Many people who need a tree(s) taken down have professionals do it who will of course take it away too.  But others simply cannot afford to pay a pro because they are paying high taxes (very few households have a six figure income, particularly those who are retired, ah-hem), and might take a tree down themselves, will the town pick up the tree if people have opted out of the yard waste pick-up?  I never realized that the town will pick up trees you've taken down if you call them.

No matter who is elected to serve as Town Supervisor or as Town Board members - they would have the legal obligation and responsibility to fund ALL pension funds of town employees.

If any of the nayboobs were elected as town supervisor or town board member, they would realize rather quickly that public officials have to operate within legal constraints (federal, state & local laws, contractual obligations) and other constraints.  It is too easy to sit in your recliner chair at home and criticize those who actually have to deal with the everyday reality of running a municipality.

Personally, I am surprised that no one has challenged municipalities for using public monies to pick up discarded Christmas trees.  One could argue that it violates the "separation of church and state."   In order to be fair will municipalities clean up the remains from animals sacrificed during some other religion's holidays?

Then explain DV, WHY the mayor of Schenectady does not operate within the legal constraints (...state & local laws) when he does NOT publish the list of foreclosures in the paper (name of property owner, address, ID, amount of delinquent taxes).   AND why does the mayor ignore the local laws of charging homeowners with violations if they don't separate their trash for recycling?     Well????

Is it acceptable for public money to be used to pick up trees put up by Jewish people ?  Is it acceptable for public money to be used to pick up trees put up by people whose parents never have brought them to a church to become part of it, have never taught them any religion, have never sent them to Sunday school, have never brought them to church, have never explained the Christian meaning of Christmas, and these children go up not practicing any religion at all, don't care the least about any God or god, do not pray, etc and do not in any way have Christmas in their house for religious reasons but do put up a tree and have the presents, etc?   Is it acceptable for public money to be used to pick up trees put up by atheists who only participate in the non-religious activities of Christmas (singing Jingle Bells and Silver Bells, Ruldolph, Santa Baby), put presents under the tree for their children to open, bake cookies, cook a ham, have family or friends over for dinner?

Is it acceptable for public money to be used to pick up yard waste bags or trash cans containing the discarded jack-o-lanterns after Halloween?

Is it acceptable for public money to be used to pick up trash containing egg shells from Easter?

Maybe you can help me here....
(1) Please provide law that requires foreclosures be published
(2) Please provide law that requires residents to separate recycling
Thanks

Hey, I admit the entire thing is criminal.  Working in the private sector, there is no guaranteed pension.  The government doesn't go and tax property to guarantee somebody's private pension.  Where as the property owners in Rotterdam have to pay for police pensions that were negotiated by a compromised pedophile Supervisor, that gave the town away to the police department for generations to come.  Now, when there is a shortfall in the pension funding because of poor contracts over the years, these morons want to borrow money to fund the pension.

The everyday reality is, contracts negotiated 30 years ago apparently cannot be changed or restructured no matter how many elections are held.  That's why voting doesn't matter.  The residents will continue to drown in excessive taxation, regardless who sits in those town board chairs, because a town board 30 years ago sold you down the river, and there's nuthin you can do about it.

The brush fee is just another revenue stream scheme that can be used to fund the police pension.  That's reason enough to opt out of the scam.

Since you posted to me in response to what  I asked DV why his beloved mayor of the CITY of Schenectady does not obey the laws, Joebxr, I have chosen to post the response in the "Outside Rotterdam" section because it refers to the city.
