The project will be on state of the art septic systems.  It will have solar panels.  It is uniquely designed (insulation, south facing windows, etc.) to be highly energy efficient.  I must add that I am particularly looking forward to seeing this project completed.  It really is moving in the right direction as far as energy efficient design and construction.

More housing units in Rotterdam = lower property values.  If seniors are moving into these new apartments, who is buying the 40+ year old homes they are moving out of?  Schalmont closed mariaville school because the district was shrinking.  There will be a substantial social and economic demographics change in Rotterdam over the next 10 years.

Actually, your analysis is wrong on 2 points.  

#1) These apartments are not being "billed" or marketed as senior apartments.  They would be attractive to young adults (22 to 30-something) who are concerned about energy and the environment.  

#2) Those baby boomers and seniors who are downsizing anyway -- would be more likely to stay IN Rotterdam because these units would be available to them.

Either way, you will have 156 units filled with both young and older persons with decent disposable incomes that they can then spend IN Rotterdam on food, gas, clothes, etc.

Additionally -  this project is being built on land that has been OFF the tax rolls for years (because it was owned by a church that planned to build a seminary there) and now is ON THE TAX ROLLS.   This means an expanded tax-base for the Town of Rotterdam.

Finally, there is absolutely nothing to suggest that this project will lower the property values in the rest of Rotterdam.

Your 1st claim is nonsense.

Not sure what Altamont Avenue has to do with the topic of this thread.  But then, you like to ramble and rove all over the place with your arguments.

#1)  the Town of Rotterdam doesn't run Ikon and is not responsible for the financial operations and viability of a private business.

#2) Ikon has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the green apartment project being built

#3) the green apartments will be managed by a private business and not the Town of Rotterdam -- so the public sidewalks anyplace else or town workers are not germane to the subject.

Quite frankly, you are grasping at straws because you don't have a legitimate case to make against this project.  I think you just like to be miserable and complain.

think about it....BIGGER PICTURE                 You assume that we don't look at the bigger picture.  When in fact, we do.  Everyone involved in the process actually is competent and gives a damn about the future of the town.   You just shoot off unsubstantiated and/or non-germane complaints -- yet, I know that you never bothered to attend one of the many meetings when this project was being considered.
