With all the incidents involving citizens filming police - it should be fairly common knowledge that the public has a right to do that.  Could they confiscate film in certain circumstances - yes, but for all the noise and commotion, I doubt they would need or want it for this incdent.  Probably an ill advised comment by the officer, precipitated by the annoyance of being filmed.

When can they confiscate a bystander filming on public space?  No need to get a warrant and present probable cause for search and seizure?  A cop can just confiscate property from a person not charged with a crime?  Yeah...like I said.  The person recording was not "documenting evidence" he was filming what could be viewed from a public space.  Dummy cop was intimidating the person recording their handiwork.

Henry - how long do you think it takes to dispose of a gun used in a crime?

Seconds

This is a new tactic police are using to confiscate cameras, they make the claim they need it as evidence and even if they have no authority to do so they do it knowing full well nothing will come of it. Here is a video of such a case, its worth watching the whole thing.

Just a few bad apples...Even our forum police apologist says cops can confiscate private property without charging you with a crime.  God Bless Police State USA.

Cicero.  Again you are tiresome.  I am far from a  police apologist. i am critical when I think it is appropriate.  And, if I am saying the officers comments were ill advised - then to the reasonable person, that would be indicative that I did not think the officer;s actions  were appropriate.

confiscate, but yes a warrant would be needed.

Yeah, like those kids filming on the beach that had their equipment confiscated and destroyed and jailed.  They chose a bad path in America, they stood up for their rights.

They made their choices, right or wrong. I may or may not agree with what happened, but
at least they made their own choices, knowing there may or may not be consequences.

They made their choices right or wrong?   They were filming, they were hurting nobody.  The thug cops made the choices to body slam a kid and destroy their camera equipment,.   Oh yeah, and jail them.   So is it your belief that the decisions the cops make... may or may not have consequences?  Or do you believe only the mundane must choose their decisions carefully because you may face the consequences from the jack booted thugs?  Can a mundane take a cops right to liberty for his/her decisions?

Anyone else hear the bullets flying last Sunday? I think around 7pm or so, call came thru about Brandywine Vale area, shortly after something about a house on Albany St being fired at. Maybe same incident? Sometime around midnight here comes 5 or 6 pops plain as day, couldn't tell exactly where from. We're up by Central Park school. All connected? Anyway Sch'dy getting to be a wide open town. Bad stuff going on,
losing the handle on it.

And notice how so many stabbings and shootings don't make it to the news.

Probably the mayor is paying off the newspapers with bribes  to keep quiet.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

I believe the Mayor's wife works at the Gazette as a Social Media Strategist.

No the reporters are tired of covering anything that is too "negative" or 99% of the city "happenings". Thank God we have a self described law enforcement expert as Mayor.
He can't even solve the pit bull crisis but he got the right stuff for the City cesspool. No need to beef up SPD dog catchers-no need to put cops on the beat. We gots unmanned
cameras and a crime free Downtown-lol.
