as for what the highway department should be/have doing  -how about storm water management   -  I guess this work was tooo hard of the older workers so they stopped doing this in the 1980's and decided to pickup lawn and leaf bags  - hopefully now we will see more ditch digging as residents opt out.

Fee for service has been around for almost ever

just look at DMV
  license
  registration
  inspection

hunting and fishing

building a new home

cable tv

our fellow communists in Kalifornia have been extracting fee for services since the mid 1980's because it is Republican and Conservative friendly

fashion takes time to reach Rotterdam ny  - even in the age of the internet

and just now the Republicans in Rotterdam are waking up to this fact

wait..... I thought Republicans were about paying for themselves and not supporting others -  which is it????

How does the town budget for enough staff and equipment year in year out if you never know how many opt out of the pick up service?  Are they going to contract out the service based on the number of people opting for it?  Where did they pull the $50 number from if they don't know the demand?

We ... but have paid for it out of our taxes .

There he goes again, saying "we," and "our" but he pays no taxes.  His name does not appear as a taxpayer on any tax roll.

Just be sure DV, as unknowlegable you are about taxes, just be sure that you don't address the FACT that this is NOTHING MORE than a means by which your dems are circumventing the tax cap and give UNNECESSARY raises to some favored few.

But then, your dems have come up with this term 'tax cap" which does NOT in anyway cap the taxes that the homeowners pay.  Under the tax cap invented by YOUR party, the financially struggling homeowners CAN have a 25% increase in their tax BILLS.   Maybe someday IF you ever own a house, you will understand.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Subcontract it to the city?  Great!  This is a scam to generate revenue for that toilet of a city...How creative.

I heard, I thought I heard, word is, the donut shop. For crying out loud doesn't anybody have any factual information? At least when I post something that I believe is rumor or idle chit-chat I label it as such.

How does the town staff and budget for this optional service?  Clear up the logical questions.

Nineteen cops made more than double Rotterdam's average household income and these politicians are going to tell seniors on a fixed income they have to pay extra for a service they've received since the inception of the road side leaf pick-up service, or they can opt out?  Hmmmmm...Nobody is going to ask where the money they've been paying is going?  Nobody is going to look at the 6 figure police salaries?

It’s time we viewed the state for what it really is: a mechanism by which rulers enrich themselves at the expense of the ruled. Everything else is a smokescreen.

BINGO!!!!! the senior center will love this bingo game
