I know part of Rotterdam uses septic tanks, has anyone heard that the town is thinking of putting all on town water so septic tanks no longer needed?

Town water? to eliminate septic tanks?? That makes no sense.

If you meant town SEWERS, it'll never happen - it'd cost millions, which the town doesn't have and won't possibly pass a town
referendum/vote. It was tried in the high-bridge area, they wouldn't vote for it.

The residents of Rotterdam, sans a few houses near or on the town boundaries , are all on "town water"

I would guess no time soon.  It would have to go to a vote - probably at least a year away, if ever.

think about the pricing

the total project must be funded by those who get sewer service  - and then there is a mandated "connection fee"

if you had your septic pumped every 3 years it would still be cheaper than a community pipe

if you pump your septic every 25 years  - maybe the sewer is cheaper for Idiots

unless of course you live in a high water table area that the town board approved housing for then you get to wade in your sh!t - ie most of rotterdam

Rotterdam's biggest mistake was not putting in public sewers back in the 1970's when there were Federal and State grants available which would have paid for most of it.  Unfortunately, too many residents and some of our leaders were too backward thinking then -- and apparently, still are.

the leaders had/have nothing to do with it. The RESIDENTS have the final say via A VOTE!! The residents voted and voted NO!!! Septic is cheaper (not backward thinking) no matter how ya cut it!!

Of course, since you have NEVER owned property, NEVER paid taxes, (and your parents were renters too), and you NEVER had to address having to have a septic system replaced, get estimates for such, or the material from which t's made,  fields vs drywells, front yard vs back yard, what you can and can't put into a system, or when to have it pumped. you obviously kno NOTHING about septic vs sewer.

Really DV how about doing a wee bit of research before you post a message, huh?   Like in the city of Schenectady it costs homeowners about $300 a year in sewer "tax" (i.e., money paid to the government which is NOT ax deductible, of course you wouldn't know the difference between tax deductible expenses vs non-tax deductible expenses), and homeowners, .like in the town, on septic pay no sewer fee at all, and pay roughly $150 every two to four years (depending on number of people in the household and the size of the tank)to have it pumped.

But then, you are so full of sh*t that the owners of almshouse where you stay probably have to have the tank pumped twice a year if not more.

Actually, the leaders HAD and HAVE something to do with it.  In the past, John Kirvin was reluctant to pursue sewer iniatives -- that during a time when Federal and State grants were available that would have paid for most of the infrastructure.  The residents can't vote for it unless the leaders put together a proposal.
I would disagree with your statement that septic is cheaper.  The FACT is that Rotterdam has lost out on a lot of good economic development over the years because it does not have sewers.  I know of at least 2 hotel chains and at least 4 other very prominent national businesses that would have developed properties near Exits 25A and 25-- but did not because there are no sewers there.  I know that certain parcels -- like the site of  old bowling alley  and the old Grand Union that have languished for years because there are no sewers there.  And it is because we do NOT get those good economic development projects that residential property owners are paying higher taxes.   We have 3 interstate exits in our town -- and all 3 are no where near their potential use for commercial development.  So septic systems are NOT really cheaper.  They just tell the rest of the world that Rotterdam is content to be stuck in the mid 20th century development wise.

Yep, DV wants government sewers/

The big socialist DV, or is it communist?

Everything government owned.

Government sewers, government theaters, government bakeries, government restaurants, government gys, government apartments (but he wont' venture into the city to live in one of them), government gin mills, etc.

Oh, and let's not forget, a government appointed by the party rather than leaders elected by the people.

Of the fact that he THINKS sewer is cheaper proves he has never owned or paid taxes or fees.

I would like to point out that quite a number of residents of Rotterdam, back in the day, were quite happy without the infrastructure to enable rapid, poorly planned development, or sprawl, as it's known. I know people who lived out in the area near Rotterdam Square, if they wanted lights, noise, traffic, crowds, they would have bought property in Schenectady. Lots of people were content with just a small number of local businesses, and they would save their shopping for when they went into the city. These people weren't backward for not wanting things to change. Has Rotterdam changed for the better?
