I think I explained where I was coming up with twice, in my post. No wonder people fall for McCheeses's bs. It is right there, in my post. When I say we pay twice, I am talking about being charged two times for the same thing. I am not talking about paying as in how many times you write a check.

Can I ask you DemocraticVoiceOfReason, what kind of lawnmowers do you have?  My father's lawnmower is a mulching mower too. I know he always used it on the lawn instead of the bag for the cut grass.  When he used to have a vegetable garden he used to get all the stuff in the bag and lay the cut grass in between the rows in the garden. But he didn't do that with the leaves.  I mean he used the mulch section of the mower but on the leaves but when spring came those mulched pieces of leaves were so thick and wet we had to rake it all and it left bare spots in the lawn.  How much do you save on your taxes?

Our principal lawnmower is a John Deere  and we have a couple walk behind mowers from Sears.  All 3 will mulch leaves and lawn clippings.  Can't really say why your leaves are thick and wet in the spring.  That has never happened to us.  We start mulching the leaves as they come down, going over the lawn several times during the leaf dropping seaon and don't let them pile up. That might be the difference.

As far as the taxes, we don't save by mulching but then again -- we don't need to spend money on harmful chemicals to feed our lawn and we don't cost our fellow taxpayers any more by having the town haul our lawn waste away.

Don't believe this guy.  He tells fairy tales all the time.

Duh, he can't understand why leaves are thick and wet in the spring?  Gee, snow on top of leaves, snow melts, makes leaves wet.  Leaves simply do not disappear over the winter.  DV can't grasp that if you have lots of trees, then even mulching will leave a THICK pile of broken up pieces (mulched) leaves which WILL just sit on top of the lawn, killing the grass underneath.  If you have maybe just one tree and you can rake the leaves away from the tree, sort of spreading them out over a vast lawn, then go over them with a mulching mower.

DV would have you believe that the house in which he lives off the dole has a beautiful lush lawn but implying that, please note that he REFUSES to explain how to prevent crabgrass from germinating without the use of crabgrass preventer.

Don't believe what he says, the people who own the house in which he lives are rich people that pay professional lawn care.

I am going to try the crabgrass treatment myself, this spring. I think that the mulching mower works better for people with bigger yards, or with small yards without trees. We get a few leaves blowing in, that get mulched in, but I don't have any big trees in my yard.
IMO, a lot of lawn problems come from people mowing improperly, as in too frequently and too short in hot weather. Also some people water the same way, if you are going to water you need to water it a long time, but not that frequently.
My lawn stays pretty good without much work, but I think it's because nobody walks on it much.

Mulching your own grass and leaves will not immediately or by itself reduce your taxes.  However, it is taking a definitive first step towards being less dependent on government.
The other thing that you need to do is take a good long look at the people running for elective office in the town.  No elective office should go uncontested.

And you STILL have not stated what you do to prevent crabgrass.  Seeds ALWAYS travel.

The ONLY reason you don't like uncontested races is because you want to be able to brag IF your dem buddies win against others.

Gee, midnight, no supervision while on the computer, must be hanging out at the places like that I-taste site, huh?

we would hire 6 more fulltime police officers to issue tickets for lack of property maintenance and layoff the Highway department and out source the snow plowing to the county

and the cheerleader will get out the pom poms and cheer "consolidation is a cost saving measure"

So are ROTTERdamians ALL being charged $50 for leaf pick up or is it just the ones that use the service?
And how does this work for MFH? $50 for each unit?

You can opt out of the service. I would take that to mean you don't have to pay the $50. I have heard the idea tossed around of neighbors sharing the cost with only one paying the fee while the others cart their yard waste to the one location.

I'm an enigma, even to myself.
