Malta got the money because Pataki was governor and Joe Bruno was State Senate Majority Leader. So, Obama is President, Cuomo is Governor, Schenectady Democrats get a crap bridge, and the "hundreds of jobs created" downtown by moving in State agencies, what happened to those?

No, metroplex is locally funded through sales tax.  No state and federal money.  And it's not a smaller scale, it's a larger scale per capita.

Twelve percent of Schenectady County lives below the poverty level, and Metroplex takes a percentage of each purchase they make, and give it to Galesi and other select private businesses.  It's a really clever method to extort money out of poor people, and direct it to wealthy crony political donors.

Metroplex - investing poor people's money into businesses they can't afford to patronize, and that create jobs that pay a working poor wage.

Schenectady County has also gotten State and Federal tax dollars -- just look at the Erie Blvd rebuilding project if you want an example.  But it has not gotten anywhere near the State and Federal tax dollars that Malta has gotten  -- over $1 Billion dollars.  Oh -- and Malta didn't have to put up anywhere near the "local share" that Schenectady has had to invest.  So actually --- the rich people in Malta are taking tax dollars from the poor peopl in Schenectady in order to make the rich people in Malta and a foreign company from an oil rich middle eastern nation even richer.

So stop being a hypocrite by criticizing Schenectady and then holding Malta up as some paragon of virtue.  The rich people of  Malta and Saratoga County have long stolen from the tax payers across the state to keep their taxes lower -- THEY are the real problem ... not Schenectady.

that's correct....the business leaders that accept metro $$ don't live in Schenectady county

I'm not defending the Global Foundries money.  I'm saying that metroplex has taken $75 million out of the local economy through a regressive sales tax, which is a tax that greatly affects the poor, and gave it to millionaires.  Then too boot, they gave tax exemptions to these millionaires and shifted more of the tax burden onto the middle class and poor.  Then the local governments go around and cite people for code violations because they don't have the money to keep up with the basic maintenance of their property.

You aren't asking for economic development in Schenectady, you want redistribution of wealth into Schenectady so the government that destroyed the county can do business as usual.  You don't want them to feel the consequences for their mismanagement.  You want your cake and eat it too.

Malta got federal and state tax dollars so you claim they take oney from the poor in Schenectady

Once again, you have proven that you are NOT a taxpayer and have never filed a tax return.  If you were a taxpayer and filed a return, you would know about that thing called Earned Income Tax Credit, which mans that the poor not only do not pay taxes, but they get additional money back.

Here, let me explain, DV, a lower income person let's say had $2,000 withheld during the year.  When they file their return, they get ALL THAT $2,000 back PLUS they might get an additional $1.000.   Have $2,000 withheld during the year file taxes and get a $3,000 refund.

Do you have reading comprehension ability?

Will you respond to the proof that the poor are NOT paying for Malta?????    OF COURSE NOT.

Will you respond to the proof that the poor in Schenectady are paying the property taxes for the multimillionaire property owners downtown--the political cronies of YOUR DEM BUDDIES?   OF COURSE NOT.

will you ever respond and provide documentation about how downtown is an investment?   That is, explain how the PEOPLE that live in the city are seeing a return on what you call an investment?   OF COURSE NOT.

Why are you TOTALLY SPEECHLESS when it comes to explaining how downtown Schenectady is affecting the tax base, the tax bills, the property values, home sales, home sale prices, vacant housing, blight, etc.   Why do you avoid commenting on the truths?

Erie/State is a major Cluster fu(k to say the least!!! Even the businesses are saying that it is a mess and a shoddy job where there was no pre-planning for this mess!!! I also heard that this may be one of the reasons why proctors isn't doing so well. No one is driving down the mess.

From the 10/13 Daily Gazette:

Why prop up towns and businesses that don't need help?

The juxtaposition of two Gazette articles Oct. 8 caught my eye concerning the Clifton Park Industrial Development Authority.

In one, Mazzone Hospitality, a very successful business, is asking the town IDA for tax breaks on property it seeks to consolidate some operations to make them more efficient.

In the other, the IDA is shutting down its economic development fund, set up to make loans.

Apparently, the shutdown is being forced by the state Authorities Budget Office [ABO].

I'm confused. I thought IDAs were authorized by the state Legislature to help aging mill towns give tax breaks to put abandoned industrial sites back to use.

How did that legislation get stretched to include prosperous and fast-growing suburban towns, such as the one I've lived in for 35 years?

I was surprised to learn that "the state ABO oversees about 570 authorities, of which about half are local development organizations." Five hundred seventy? Over half local development organizations? How did that happen?

Apparently, each is staffed and controlled by an appointed board that is authorized to borrow and spend. And we wonder why it costs so much to live in New York.

In this case the fund chairman is also a vice president of the Saratoga Economic Development Corp., which itself is in financial straits.

Apparently, I better start paying more attention to what goes on in my local town hall.

Notice how DV crawls back into his cave because he has been proven wrong again.

He claimed that the poor in Schenectady paid for the rich in Malta because of the state and federal money.   But we who are intelligent and know the real facts have proven he is 1,000% wrong given the FACT that the poor do not pay taxes, not even if they work. Actually not only do they get EITC, they often get other assistance, e.g., some food stamps, WIC, Child Health Plus, etc, and all this way more than offsets what they might pay in sales taxes.

Since he has been proven wrong, he has chosen not to address proof that he is wrong.  Just crawls back in his cave.

So, another half-assed public works project that should have been done anyway, that's what the working together crowd brings us in Schenectady, that money WAS taken away from projects to benefit poor people. Again I ask, Malta got that project because of all the same party politicians, we have all the same party now, Cuomo keeps taking things away that we got from the other party, where is our share? He won't even let our schools have the money they lost due to a mistake. What kind of renaissance keeps losing out on government consideration? How is it these legendary, amazing planners keep getting us the end of the lollipop without the candy on it? What CAN they do right? Not politics, not planning, not budgeting, not selling real estate, not any of a city government's real duties.
