Buffardi said the town could shed one position through retirement if the grant comes through. Also, he said taxpayers could avoid the $750,000 anticipated replacement cost of the grinder now being used at the town’s compost facility off Princetown Road.

now ain't this funny....wasn't this supposed to be self supporting??????

I recall some funky story/owner/operator crap involved in this....like MOST FOLKS SAID NO!!!! but the gangstas said YES...

ROTTERDAM'S COMPOST FACILITY
Quoted Text
Town Compost Facility will open in April
(corner of Princetown Road and Burdeck Street)

Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 7:00 pm
Saturday - 8:00 am - 6:00 pm

All refuse brought to our compost facility must be in biodegradable paper bags (grass, leaves, and brush). Branches, sticks and long brush must be tied in 4' length bundles.
Contractors must obtain a permit from the Town Clerk’s office before utilizing the compost facility. Contractors cannot leave debris for the Town to pick up.

Curbside Pickup of Refuse:

Help our Highway crews by placing grass, leaves, weeds, flower clippings, and other small debris in biodegradable paper bags or reusable rubbish containers. Please, when full, these containers should not weigh more than 50 pounds.

If you have branches and other yard debris, make sure they do not exceed 4 feet in length and tie them in bundles if possible. Pickup of grass, leaves, weeds, and brush will continue as long as weather permits.

Just a staging area for the stuff not an actual compost.  Too many times slapped by DEC for not being able to run it correctly.  Just got slapped again by DEC if my memory serves me correctly.  Not to worry, FDG will just burn it!  LOL

Just a thought.   What's to prevent 2 adjoining homeowners to team up and split the $30.00 fee?   For example home #1 has 50 bags of waste.   Homewoner #2 has 3-5.   So homeowner #2 says to homeowner #1 I'll pay 1/2 your fee,$15, if you'll let me  place my leaves over onto your land.   This, or some derivation of the mechanics to carry it out is entirely possible.   You get the idea.   Wonder under what statute this would be considered illegal if it is between consenting homeowners who have the same type of leaves.

Collecting yard waste for six months each year is an expensive endeavor for Rotterdam’s Highway Department.

And the other 6 months of the year are snow removal, which is probably MORE expensive.  Will they start charging a "fee" for that also?

Did not see an opt-clause in the Gazette article.   However, Niskayuna does allow an opt-out clause.   You must submit one in writing as all are included in the tax bill unless you opt-out.

Ah, thank you.  I'm not familiar with their laws, I thought they just picked up everyone, I didn't even know they charged for it.

Thanks for the info

The town could put an opt-out form in our tax bills and if you want to opt-out just fill out the form and give it to the town with your tax payment.
