Everyone appreciates and supports their police depts. And I think that we can all agree that they deserve a fair wage. However, there is some obvious contractual changes that should be made. There is obvious pension padding which is clearly not fair to the already over burdened taxpayers.Vacation time is over the top. Overtime is not regulated closely enough. And this is all unfortunate. It's not like it was in the good old days when cops were a significant part of the community. They were everyone's friend. That is really not the case these days. It's all about 'the money, power and control....again unfortunate.

But it is what it is!

Not so Shadow...
General Electric, General Motors, Ford, and many other corporations IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR include total
yearly pay (including OT) to compute their retirement for hourly workers.

If these police officers are actually working the hours... shouldn't they get paid for it???
Many municipalities will cut cut cut until the police force is at a bare minimum staffing... to save taxpayer
dollars.  Sometimes they could save more if instead of paying overtime premium dollars, they hired a few more
officers when needed.

it's called the Berlin wall of blue....take my overtime this year because you are older than me.....I'll get mine from the next newbie.....it's like a silent auction.....

remember remember the COLA's and other crap.......pay it forward so the next generation gets F'D

the private sector fixes itself much quicker.....of course if there is a union gestapo it MIGHT take a little longer in the private sector......because there is no fear if a bunch of steel workers walk off, or
a bunch of verizon workers walk off....'safety' isn't involved......

1. safety
2. food
3. health

the trinity of control.....

remember barter/trade will ALWAYS exist....but #1 of above list is more like gangster thought.....

BOX...no offense, but has nothing to do with not respecting Police...I think we all appreciate what they do, it's what they chose to do. It's about what is fair and affordable for the taxpayers, and not only in Rotterdam. Private sector salaries ARE NOT keeping up with the cost of living, and taxes continue to rise.  With these inequitable retierment benefits negotiated by unions, there will come a point where people can no longer afford to pay the taxes which in turn cannot keep up with the salaries, leading to not enough Police officers...and it just snowballs from there. It has to stop somewhere or the future will just get darker and darker.

Union negotiation  got bigger.........Police are in harms way everyday.....they put their life on the line.  God bless them always.

"When I grow up I want to be a policeman"

Back then how many did become cops???......

Looks like some had a mindset and ran with it....

The budget for the police is an overkill for a certain few....as we see with the latest Rotterdam cop who is retiring....

All government employees are do the same thing.....and our retired  former Comptroller.....fat pension and in Glenville earning

another wage ....however that goes...

On and on it goes....when, where it will stop....no one knows....

The fact is that the men and women who serve the Town of Rotterdam in the Police Department are professionals.   They will protect and serve ALL who need them -- even the useless nayboob twits who do nothing but insult and demean our law enforcement community.

Back to the topic of the thread -- These fine young men and women are NOT workers at GE. They do a much, much more dangerous task each and every day - laying their precious lives on the line and keeping us safe.......  I along with vast and overwhelming majority of Rotterdam residents join together to say "THANK YOU" to what I believe to be the most dangerous and under-appreciated of careers -- First Responder.    Each and every penny our First Responders are paid would not be too much if they are saving you from a criminal, one of your children was in danger, or a murderer was in your home.....   WHY would any of you complain NOW? You should thank GOD for them on your hands and knees.                         To the nayboobs I say "GFY." I for one -- will be thrilled no matter WHAT they are paid, because we HAVE them here to protect us. So DROP DEAD if you believe that you should have ANY beef as to WHAT they are paid -- because the CONTRACT which was dually ratified is IN FORCE and is just, in lieu of the danger their job entails.

Ham, just answer this question with a "yes" or a "no"............    Should homeowners be required to pay taxes so high that they wind up losing their homes to tax foreclosure just to provide a high pay for public safety??????

So what is your position on the policy of how retirement is calculated.
Do you feel this is a fair computation mehtodology and fair to the taxpayers?
Do you believe that adhering to these formulas could have negative impact on the community going forward?
Do you think this needs to be fixed or is perfectly fine in it's current state?

Public Safety is NOT negotiable -- is is deadly serious and NECESSARY! There can be NO compromising when it comes to the safety of children, infants, women, and the elderly.

True, we need public safety.

but ANWER THE QUESTION!!!      Do YOU believe that property taxes should be raised so high to the poing of homeowners losing their homes due to tax foreclosure -- just to pay public safety staff salaries six figure incomes with uncontrolled overtime?

No compromising at all??????    No compromising to insure that hard working homeonwers don't lose their homes?????????    Is THAT what you are saying?
