I bet you anything that the issues that are currently occurring at the Rotterdam Police Department will be used to state that they need a new police station as soon as the new regime takes control.

Right now, South Schenectady Fire Department is pulling out after checking out the issues at the RPD.  There were at least 3 fire trucks at RPD this evening due to the fact that there is some sort of an issue with the boiler.  I would guess that instead of just fixing the issue with the boiler, they'll be looking for an entire new police station, now they have "just cause."

We have had "just cause" to replace the police station/justice court for years.  It will be a HUGE accomplishment that benefits the entire town ---  when the new police station/justice court is built.

It will be interesting to find out if these are 'natural repairs' or 'self imposed'....just to make a case.
Again........sewers will have to be proposed and a taxing district would have to be voted on 'by the taxpayers' BEFORE anything can be done! And the taxpayers will vote 'no'!

So it's going to be another wasted administration in rotterdam!

the new police station/justice court  can certainly be built BEFORE sewers go in  ...  there is absolutely no good reason to wait

Sure! You could just fill the $100,000 septic system with gravel and cap it off as soon as you make your new sewer hookup! So what if it was a waste of money- it isn't THEIRS!!!!!! Oh they just laugh laugh laugh as they waste waste waste OUR MONEY!

Since the new station/court is desperately needed,  I see no reason to delay its being built --- so if it means temporarily using a septic system that would later be capped -- so be it   It would be better or more ideal to get the new sewer system in place so that a septic system was not needed.   But sometimes we can't have the ideal and we have to do what is necessary instead.

I hope to see a new police station/justice court under construction within the next 2 years.

A new police station just may be accepted and approved by the taxpayers IF it doesn't cost or raise the taxes for rotterdamians. It was proven this last year that rotterdamians do NOT want an increase in taxes. The rems taxing district didn't fly nor did the proposed $3.5 million dollar pine grove fire dept building by a +2.1 vote.

It is clear that the taxpayers are looking for their government to 'cut spending' and not always looking to bleed the taxpayers as they have historically done.

Rotterdamian taxpayers are frustrated since they see and hear that no one is listening to them. Guess they'll just have to yell a bit louder.....yes?

Only Ron Severe and the Severe Tax Increase Team could sell THAT notion!

No one could sell it to the rotterdamians regarding a rems taxing district or a fire house. There ain't no way the rotterdam tax payer's will allow a tax increase when the country is in the worse recession since the great depression!!!! It's just nuts!!!

The building that contains the police station and justice court was CONDEMNED over 25 years ago when it ceased operation as a school ---- the building is too small, the building has safety issues such as criminals having to be walked through the general public when being brought to court hearings ---- and most importantly .. the building is in feeble condition and would not survive a tornado or earthquake ... which is exactly when you would need a functioning public safety building the most.

I have personally seen communities in the Midwest and South-Central US  with populations LESS than Rotterdam Junction which have more secure and more modern police stations/municipal centers.   One in particular in Arkansas was built to withstand a direct hit by a tornado and still function as the region's emergency command center --------------and most of the funding for the public safety/municipal center came from FEDERAL and STATE grants.    The community -- again less population than Rotterdam Junction had municipal sewers and water --- and its commercial district was much more vibrant than what is found along Hamburg Street in Rotterdam.

So I will continue to fight and push for a new police station/justice court --- a new community center -- and a new park --- as well as municipal sewers  AND   economic development    despite the pathetic ignorant insults of a handful of Nayboobs/NNTPers.
