What I can't figure out is the 'why?'

Why even make this operation public?....This in itself just doesn't make any sense. We do plenty of Black Ops  around the world and you will never hear a peep about them.

Why against Joseph Kony and his Lord's Resistance Army?  What has changed to warrant such action?

I'm not saying it's a bad thing taking this guy and his group out. If you look at the history of this organization, they truly are no joke and rank up in the top most brutal and violent in the world today.... But they don't have a political agenda. They operate on a local/regional level and have shown and given no indication that they want to expand internationally. They aren't boasting or speaking out on the world stage going "Look how powerful we are!...Blah Blah blah."

It must be a token in the political jukebox for something......

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Buck,
I have no more information than anyone else on this issue... but my 'guess' is that it's part of the "war on Al Qaeda" in Somalia.
Since the "blackhawk down days, the USA has been fighting AlQaeda in Somalia with local troops that support our cause in the area.  By eliminating their main threat (as this action is supposed to do) these troops will be free to put more effort into the Al Qaeda issue in and around Somalia.  Training and support to take out their enemies will also help when they engage ours.

AlQaeda in Somalia and the LRA are total polar opposites.....AlQaeda is international and contributes to 'the greater cause' under Islamic doctrine and law for world conquest....The LRA is a regional group that only operates in the southern part of Sudan, Uganda, and northern sections of of the DRC. ( http://www.kenyalogy.com/eng/mapake/afcp.html )  they follow a perverted form of Christanity that deals with witchcraft, the Ten Commandments (that they obviously DON'T follow) and northern Ugandan tribal nationalism.

If they met, they would kill each other.
