I guess your right, you do have the right to an opinion...but the continued insults !!! That's my point. You can be an old miserable fart....as you say you are, but why the continued insults. We try to teach our kids to be different NO ciberbullying ( that is what you are doing )  I find your opinions interesting and on point sometimes...lack of respect has no place in this world...hope you raised you children better than that so when they take interest in something they leave the personal attacks of someone with a difference of opinion out of it !

In a perfect world your thoughts would have merit. And assuming that all posters here are ADULTS......we live in a perfect world occupied by imperfect people. That's just the way it is and has been since the beginning of time.

Jon Stewart, Colbert, SNL Howard Stern.. etc....get paid millions and millions of dollars to 'insult, degrade and poke fun'. And that is accepted as political satire aka comedy. When the average Joe off the street does it......it's called bullying. Go figure. Again I'm referring to ADULTS!!

There is an option....if ya don't like it.....ya turn the channel.......ya can do the same thing here....yes?

Not everyone is like minded and not everyone expresses themselves in the same way. If I find something offensive, I will either respond with my objection or ignore it.......it's 'still' my choice.

I know I get your point about the insults......yep I do take it to a different level I guess, and I can only offer my sincere apology to you and anyone it may offend.......but I am playing by the rules here.......when it was pointed out to me that I went over the line with my crude emoticons that bypassed the banned words filter I accepted that criticism and moved on.......believe me I myself am using considerable restraint here

Not really that misearable.......I asked some honest questions and got bullshit replies.....I really am interested in the history of the town I grew up in and have spent most of my life.......I don't think there's enough written about the history as it pertains to 1930's-1960's.....I'd like to know what was the makeup of the town board's in those years......are there photos of Daly's pond, Altamont Ave.......there is some stuff written ie; the Larry Hart books, etc. and I spend a good amount of time looking at old Gazettes. I thirst for knowledge and always have. So the insults are a product of my frustration.....

I took a different life-path than most here I'm pretty sure. Never had kids. But if I did I'd probably have taught them the same things my taught me. Stand up for what's right and fight the good fight. Be yourself. Love your god and your country. If something bothers you speak out are just a few...............but the most important thing I learned was "sticks and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt you".

First impressions are not necessarily spot on.........someone on this forum once sent me the vilest pm imaginable.....ended up calling me a Communist   ........can you imagine that.....a freakin' Communist........I used the block user feature on them for months   ........turns out we shared many of the same views......we agree to disagree occasionally.......but (just speaking for myself) have great respect for each other..........respect is earned

Biaggio, you have to be the thinnest skinned guy here. DV is a P rick, he makes snarky and rude comments, he is hyper political and wants to impose his will and taxes on all, when he gets caught in a lie he says "go screw a goat" almost automatically. He starts a topic and is a proponent of some issue and when challenged for facts he says things like "I don't have to answer ANY questions from the likes of YOU!" Basically he is the one reason we all come here, to beat this clown up. Those who know of him know he is a 50 year old man who lives at his aunt's house, pays no property taxes and doesn't even have a job, yet sits on committees to decide where and when and how much tax money will be spend on things we see as frivolities!

Then he comes out and makes things up like "Brian McGarry will eliminate the police protection in Rotterdam" and such and such...It is almost painful reading his propaganda yet it must be challenged because he is a lot like the left wing media that rules America- he constantly spits out bull, then never backs it up and he does it in a condescending manner which makes you furious. If you think he doesn't do personal attacks, what about when he says that no conservatives or republicans give to local charities. Now I don't know about you, and I am not going to admit what I give, but suffice to say that my giving is in the 5 digits to LOCAL charities. I won't get into national.

One particular thing rubs me wrong: I was a proponent of the Challengers getting Woestina Park as a field even though the Little League and its leaders who also run the Conservative Party in this county were dead set against it due to some ancient grudge they had when Challengers split off from LL, 20 years ago. No civic leader but Steve Tommasone would stand up to make sure that happened and even when it did, he was threatened and harassed and they had newspaper articles out bashing him. Then numnuts went dark. Not a peep. But now he writes things up on this forum stating how much he support Challengers and how  great it is, blah blah blah. He is an unrepentent phoney fake.

So really, lighten up. He gives plenty of heat, be best take some of it.

To set the record straight -

#1)  I only learned of the Challenger League when I became a part of the Parks & Recreation Commission in late Spring 2009 and learned of their looking for a new home field sometime in July or August of 2009 ... from that point forward I backed the Challengers 100% in their efforts to obtain permission to use Woestina Field and continue to support them in their efforts.   Despite what GB says, I have never denied that Steve Tommasone played an instrumental/key role in them obtaining use of the field and have never claimed any credit for anything the Challengers have done.    The FACT is that on the Challenger's Opening Day 2010 -- when all the politicians were invited to take the field and pose for photo ops -- I was invited to take the field, too .. but declined because I DO NOT SEEK THE LIMELIGHT --- and the day belonged to the Challengers and all the many volunteers who made that renovation of the fields and clubhouse a reality.  GB will claim that I said something negative about the Challengers at a political event in 2009 -- but that is absolutely untrue  ---  my only comments were that the use of the town's parks should NEVER become a POLITICAL PAWN or used for political purposes.

#2) As for whom I live with -- that is really no ones business and the FACT is that we all contribute to paying the taxes and expenses on the house.

#3) As for spending tax dollars -- I get accused of spending all kinds of tax dollars -- yet the fact is that the Parks & Recreation Commission (of which I am the chairman) is the ONLY town commission or board that receives NO SALARY and has NO BUDGET FOR EXPENSES.   All of the members gladly volunteer their time to meet and also to do community service for our parks --- I have personally picked up the tab for all of the administrative costs of the commission and on two occasions residents donated money (about $40) to help offset our costs.  We have NEVER asked for or received a penny of taxpayer money to fund our efforts.

On August 6, 2011 - the commission sponsored the First Annual Rotterdam Community Day it Woestina Park  ... all expenses were paid by the members and donations from residents/businesses ... and we cleared $600  which has been deposited in a special account (administered by the Town Comptroller) and those fund s (and hopefully more $$  as we conduct a number of fundraisers) will be used to help pay for improvements to our town's parks and to fund  recreational and community programs in town.

Finally, GB and others claim that I am involved in this commission or other commissions and boards in the town for political purposes.   That is completely untrue --  I ran for office once 6 years ago and really have no desire to run again ---  my one and only purpose for volunteering in the community is TO LEAVE ROTTERDAM A LITTLE BETTER OFF by the time I leave this life.

Can you find even $1 in taxpayer money that has been spent because of my efforts ???    You can't .. because we (the commission) have not made any recommendations to spend ANY taxpayer dollars.

and as far as priorities ... last time that I looked .. America was a free country .. I have a right to set my own priorities as to how I volunteer my time, my talents and my money -- if I (and others) choose to set parks, recreation and community programs as MY (our)  priority .. it really doesn't matter what you think our priorities should be.    You can set your priorities and act on them ... we can set our own priorities and act on them.

I'd guess that folks don't want one dime of taxpayer money be it grants or whatever, to go to a park project! Most look at it as irresponsible. why? It is the taxpayer's money. The money that is taken from them by their government. The same government that keeps raising taxes and fees on these same taxpayers.

Times are tough, taxes are high, there are no jobs, prices rising daily, folks are struggling. The last thing they want to hear is how their 'over taxing government' is squandering their money on a park.

Schenectady county has more parks than people who will use them. History has proven that. At least wait until the economy gets healthier....then see what the taxpayers want. Right now they want lower taxes, jobs and lower prices!!!! But as usual no one is listening to them.

I wasn't referring to your personal priorities.....and I dont care that you 'donate' your time,,,kudos to you.....I mean priorities dealing with 'the people's funds'......a dog park(I know it is an idea)
shouldn't even be discussed at this time in history......

the people's funds are soft and self serving towards the politicos/unions without respect for the future......very shortsighted....I like a park as much as the next guy....but not now...we dont need fluff
we need concrete

First of all -- we are NOT proposing to develop the park immediately .... we have said all along that it would be developed incrementally -- as money became available -- over a period of years.

Second - - this is NOT squandering tax money .. as we have not asked for a single penny of town taxpayer monies for the project  .. and whatever state and federal grants that we do apply for are taxpayer dollars that have already been appropriated -- that means if Rotterdam doesn't apply and receive them .. some other community will ... and your state and federal taxes will NOT go down just because Rotterdam doesn't apply for the grants.

Third - Everywhere I go .. I meet people who are excited about the proposal for the park .. the survey conducted 2 years ago showed that over THREE QUARTERS OF RESIDENTS WANT THIS NEW PARK.  So -- from where I stand THE PEOPLE WANT THE PARK.  The only people who have voiced any objection are the 5 or 6 people who post here .. and quite frankly since I have no proof that they are actually town residents -- their opinions aren't going to impact my decisions nor the decisions of the parks and recreation commission.

Fourth -- I politely disagree that the town and county have too many parks that aren't being used .. every time I go by a town park or the county hike/bike trail  there are people using those facilities.

the dog park is something that a number of residents who came to our public meeting requested --- and it is something that a town resident has offered to donate land for ---  but as of right now .. it is NOT a priority ... no tax money has or will be spent on it.    The Parks and Recreation Commission has already said that IF a dog park is to be built in the town ... the money to develop it would have to come from fundraisers and/or donations -- and the money to maintain it would have to come from a user fee to be charged to town residents who actually use the park.
