Actually --- it was communal initiative that accomplished most great things -- Columbus studied maps and accounts of OTHER voyages that had sailed west from Europe, he needed financing from others and he needed 3 ship loads of crew mates to accomplish his voyages of rediscovery.
One individual may have provided the vision and the leadership -- but without a community working with him .. he would have died a poor forgotten man in some alley in Genoa. |

Columbus couldn't have gone wrong sailing west --- since MANY others had sailed west from Europe before and come back to tell of lands on the other side of the ocean ..... they just didn't realize that it was the Americas and not Asia .... but heck .. Columbus died thinking he had actually sailed to India/Asia. |

Columbus had vision and so did the royals who backed him. But this is not a monarchy, and we DEMAND that our tax dollars not be spent at this time and we further DEMAND as taxpayers that the town does nothing to increase its already exorbitant overhead no matter HOW MUCH UP-FRONT FREE GRANT MONEY YOU GET TO BUILD IT BECAUSE MAINTAINING MORE INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE FUTURE WHEN WE ALREADY CAN SCARCELY AFFORD TO MAINTAIN WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE IS OUT OF THE QUESTION (FOR A PERSON WITH COMMON SENSE.) |

15 years ago the Franchere Center was just a vision .. a dream .. now it has been built and is serving the public. I have no doubt that in 2020 when we celebrate the Town of Rotterdam's 200th Birthday that portions - if not all - of the Vision 2020 Parks Plan will have been implemented and that we will have a huge town-wide celebration including the 10th Annual Rotterdam Summer Community Fun Day in Bicentennial Park in Rotterdam Junction. |

The Franchere Center was a community project supported by residents, businesses and political leaders of ALL parties ..... that is our goal for Bicentennial Park ... and it will make such a fitting neighbor to Mabee Farm and the Franchere Center. |
