Some of the misinformation - actually OUTRIGHT LIES - being spread about the CVS project are:
         a) it would not be paying property tax .. when IN FACT  CVS did not ask for a pilot or any public monies for this project;
         b) that CVS is a bad neighbor because of the condition of the former CVS on Hamburg St .. when IN FACT CVS never owned that building and only leased it;
         c)  that the building would be "destroying a residential area" when IN FACT according to the comp plan and zoning map every property along Guilderland Avenue from from the city line to the West Shore Railroad is zoned business or (a few) industrial.
          d) that it doesn't matter if CVS leaves Rotterdam because Walgreen's will just move in and take its place -- when IN FACT the same "forces" who thwarted Wal-Marts and other major competitors --and is now trying to thwart CVS - would just mount an opposition campaign to ANY new project proposed.
          e) that NO ONE wants the project when IN FACT I have been called and approached by literally several dozen town residents who support the project because it would mean progress and increased tax base for the town.

The sad thing is that Rotterdam has been unfriendly to reasonable progress and development for years-- and I know that the town has lost a number of prospective projects (which never became public) because of the perception/reputation that the town has acquired nation-wide.

Look around the country - there are few towns in the entire country that have 6 (or 10 depending on how you count them) access points to the Interstate Highway System -- and there are MUCH SMALLER RURAL TOWNS IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE  with only 1 access point to the Interstate Highway System that have exploited for their benefit the tremendous asset of access to the system 100X better than Rotterdam.

The only thing standing between LOWER TAXES and a MUCH IMPROVED QUALITY OF LIFE for Rotterdam is the perpetual anti-progress and anti-development attitude of a LOUD AND INFLEXIBLE but definitely a minority of the town.

And I suppose you can provide EVIDENCE of your ALLEGED "facts"

Put the links here to the OFFICIAL sources

And a "couple dozen" people?????    Hardly a majority

And please explain how heavy traffic and 18-wheeler delivery trucks making deliveries with children waiting for school buses will improve the quality of life?????    Huh?

Of course, DV will NOT respond because he has NO EVIDENCE to support his ALLEGED "facts"

.

DVOR good synopsis  one item I think that is slightly off is how you phrased the following:

"c)  that the building would be "destroying a residential area" when IN FACT according to the comp plan and zoning map every property along Guilderland Avenue from from the city line to the West Shore Railroad is zoned business or (a few) industrial."

If I remember correctly the people who spoke against the rezone were against the rezone of properties on Lawndale...not guilderland.

...Correct Gala.........and they spoke very well .....if anyone was at the 5 corners on Friday at 11:30......they would understand why  CVS should not

be constructed at the 4 corners....tractor trailer wanted to turn into CVS and blocked and jammed traffic...noisey , air polution....etc.,

would make 4 corners even more congesan singleted....and most trailers are looking more like double thilderlandan single..imagine that turning from Curry

onto Guilderland Ave.   same scenerio at 5 corners when trailers turning onto Curry from Duanesburg.

Both thoroughfares were not intended for today's tractor trailors....they have grown in lenth significantly...

The people who spoke against it were from Lawndale but my point was that technically the neighborhood is not completely residential ---- due to the FACT that large portions of Guilderland Avenue - from the city line to the Westshore RR  (justa block from Gifford Church Road) - is ACTUALLY ZONED   Business and Light Industrial.   Many - probably most - of these properties are actually used for a "non-conforming use" - in this case Residential - but are actually zoned Business or Light Industrial.

Permit me to add three more points --

#1 - to counter those who are upset with the exterior appearance of some of the projects in town -- I would have fought hard for CVS to design the exterior in a manner similar to the Rite Aid at the intersection of Route 43 and Route 150 in North Greenbush or similar retail structures that I have seen built in other communities (even in other states) .  That building  blends right into the "village" appearance of that location.

#2 - I think that CVS was held to a higher standard than other projects (ex. the Rite Aid at 4 corners) and I absolutely believe that ALL projects or proposals under consideration should be held to the same standards and scrutiny.   There can NOT be one standard for some and another standard for others.

#3 - instead of saying that if CVS leaves town , we will try to lure Walgreen's -- our town should be "rolling up its sleeves" and working with CVS, Walgreens and others to invest and build IN Rotterdam.   [ Same with Wal-Mart --  instead of driving them OUT of town to Glenville, we should have come up with a plan to get the Super Wal-Mart IN Rotterdam ... somewhere that was appropriate and acceptable to the developers and to the residents of the town]     Ultimately, our public officials should be PROBLEM SOLVERS and there are ways to find solutions that would benefit business persons, developers and the residents of the town.

So what do you think about your boys on the town board voting it down or failing to show up for the meeting? You seem as if you are looking for a republican to blame? Is it lost on you that YOUR PEOPLE DIDN'T LISTEN TO YOU?

How is that contract with REMS????

Good question....how is that contract coming along?   And how much ALS money has the town received from REMS in the past 12 months?  Was that income figured into the 2012 budget?

You are on record as having stated that the appearance of the one on corner of Altamont is very pleasing and you support that look for the proposed one on 4 corners.  Does this mean you have changed your mind and agree it should be more attractive than the one on corner of Altamont?

#2 - I think that CVS was held to a higher standard than other projects (ex. the Rite Aid at 4 corners) and I absolutely believe that ALL projects or proposals under consideration should be held to the same standards and scrutiny.   There can NOT be one standard for some and another standard for others.That is a point I can agree with you on 100%.  I was not privy to any of the negotiatins for the Rite-aid so can't comment specifically on that process.

#3 - instead of saying that if CVS leaves town , we will try to lure Walgreen's -- our town should be "rolling up its sleeves" and working with CVS, Walgreens and others to invest and build IN Rotterdam.   [ Same with Wal-Mart --  instead of driving them OUT of town to Glenville, we should have come up with a plan to get the Super Wal-Mart IN Rotterdam ... somewhere that was appropriate and acceptable to the developers and to the residents of the town]     Ultimately, our public officials should be PROBLEM SOLVERS and there are ways to find solutions that would benefit business persons, developers and the residents of the town.Why can't we have it all...why not go after Walgreens and a Super Walmart, and maybe a Target and a Kroger or Wegmans?  Find suitable areas for these developments that won't influence traffic and housing and let's grow the town with some quality businesses. They don't even have to be big box...how about some quality boutique shops; specialty shops; etc. I believe the residents would appreciate them and patronize them.
