talked with some folks in schoharie. Asked how FEMA was doing for them. They laughed and said it was a joke. Said they applied, but it was difficult since they asked for papers that were lost in the flood. AND were told they would be denied since they are still so back logged from katrina. Once they receive their 'denial', they have to reapply all over again. Some folks paid thousands of dollar a year for flood insurance only to be denied because it wasn't a flood............IT WAS A HURRICANE!!

Anyone else hearing similar stories?

The insurance companies are using the hurricane excuse to avoid paying for the damage. I also heard that some folks in the junction were told the same thing.

folks are also questioning why the water wasn't lowered in the canal BEFORE the hurricane.

...the government needs more than 5 or 6 days notice before they can put something into place. The estimates of rainfall were already there. Draining the river and the Schoharie reservoir nice and steadily would of been great IF they were capable. But government in this bloated unionized state is like a 700 lb. woman doing ballet.

There is very little info as to what homeowners are to to other than the last day of free trash pickup is tuesday or wednesday and
there are free  cleanup supplies and food at the fire house - this is not a reflection on the our local Fire, Police and Town Employees -
who have all been extreamely helpful - this is more of a case of we haven't experienced this before

I was present durring a FEMA data collection interview with a 70 year old homeowner and her son

no one saying how or what to do to

a cheat sheet would be nice

how to combat mold - not just spray a wall with a clorox water mixture

do you remove all of the interior drywall

do you remove all flooring down to the sub floor

what needs to be replaced what can be repaired- outlets, furnaces, wiring

how to get power in your house

what is the minimum requirement to move back in

what to do when you have flood insurance

what programs are open to home owners  - low interest loans for those with no flood insurance

lists of honest contractors

this is a time when our retired population can help - as the cleanup ends electricians, carpenters, wood workers,
drywall hangers, concrete specialists -The homeowners Rotterdam Junction need your you brains and experience
not muscle - most of the damage occured where fincial resouces are at their lowest

Facebook is great resources on the outside but not so great when you have NO power and your computer is being
scooped into the rotterdam tree debris truck

getting the power turned back on is cheap compaired to $4/gallon gas for a generator and allows for work to continue after
dark as the days get shorter - in about 15 days the night will be longer than the day

the streets of rotterdam junction are lined with "memories" and these "memories" will be lost at the nearest landfill

if FEMA is doing their job the homes of rotterdam junction will be filled with "memories" -and this is how we will grade FEMA
and our community

Talking to each other is better than talking about each other

You are correct tippy..........but it will be 'when' these homes will be filled with memories. They aren't done with katrina yet and it's been FIVE years!!

Don't hold your breath....people are looking for a lot more than the system will allow. I would worry  about disease and sickness if the soil and homes aren't dealt with correctly. take. A Big whif when you drive by ( if any of you even come this way ) THIS IS WHERE OUR BELOVED FRANKIE BOY NEEDS TO STEP UP.....he does what he knows ....moving dirt, doesn't know a damn thing about running a town

Hey biaggio, Chucky Shumer, Pauly Tonko and Any Cuomo were there, what have THEY done so far?  What do you suggest the Town Board do?  Everybody has criticized, yet nobody outlined what they are waiting for him to do.

They are all do nothing politicians. Don't people get it yet? The government CAN'T take care of you!!! Sadly their empty promises is what gets them elected. If everyone learned to be more self sufficient and more community minded, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Stop looking to GOV ALMIGHTY and stop believing that they will be our saving grace. Blaming the government is just a poor excuse for lack of self reliance.

A modified version of jfk....'ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY(government) CAN DO FOR YOU, ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRYMEN'
