NY, NJ Officials: Prepare for Hurricane Irene Wednesday, Aug 24, 2011 | Updated 6:33 AM EDT
Officials in New York and New Jersey are urging residents to be prepared for the hurricane headed toward the East Coast.
Hurricane Irene has already raked the Caribbean and is projected to make landfall in North Carolina by Saturday then travel up the coast. The path of the storm is still uncertain, however.
"Everybody should keep an eye on the storm and pay attention to the Office of Emergency Management," New York City Mayor Bloomberg said at a press conference Tuesday. "And if this one doesn't hit us, the likelihood of others is very great. We'll likely get a few storms for sure here."................>>>>..................>>>>>....................http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/NY-NJ-Officials-Prepare-for-Hurricane-Irene-128289783.html
Some are expecting a lot of power outs even around here due to the wind. I suggest you check your flashlights and maybe pick up some extra batteries just in case. Better to have and not need then to need and not have

In case the power goes out...........Get some cash and fill your car with gas. Fill you propane tank for grilling. Ice for coolers. Ifya have a water well, buy some water or fill containers. If ya have camping equipment....get it out. If you have a generator, make sure it works. Battery radio. Know how to open your automatic garage door if there is no power.
And check on your elderly family, friends and neighbors.

Totally self sufficient with 2 generators, gas, water, and propane so come on Irene we're ready.
It's amazing how many people will wait till the power goes out before doing something. I remember the power going out for a couple days and many people thought it was the end of the world. I went to Walmarts the day after the power came on and all the flashlights, batteries, and camping gear was gone off the shelves

I am just glad that this damn storm isn't Hurricane Sebastien" or "Hurricane Justin" or some other effeminate guy's name. The whole thing where they use a man's name makes me sick.
Hope you guys got what you needed already, like I said before the flashlights and other items will be gone and sure enough I just got back from Walmarts and the aisle was stripped, no flashlights, candles, low supply of batteries. Looked like the bottled water section was hit hard as well last night. It might be a good idea to pick up a few bags of ice in case the power does go, you can then at least stick your frozen food in a cooler so it doesn't spoil.

If the major stores are out of batteries and flashlights the dollar stores have lots and they carry major brands.

A few pieces of news. A. The first death related to the hurricane has occurred in North Carolina, a man killed by a falling tree branch. B. While the eye of the hurricane is currently in/near North Carolina, the first rain from the stormis already starting to hit NYC. C. If you tune into MSNBC, the way they're talking, they actually seem depressed that thestorm isn't stronger and doing more damage. That's just sad.
And if you listen to other news outlets, you'd think that the earth was about to open up and swallow us all. Geez get a grip. It's weather. It happens.
