Rick Perry to run for 2012 Republican presidential nomination
Longest-serving Texas governor set to challenge Mitt Romney and Michele Bachmann with late entry to White House race

Texas governor Rick Perry, a staunch rightwinger with a Washington outsider's political resumé, will run for the Republican nomination for US president in 2012.

"He will make a definitive announcement on Saturday for the race," Perry spokesman Mark Miner said. Asked if Perry is indeed joining the race, Miner said "yes".

Perry is a social and religious conservative who can boast of a strong job-creation record in Texas. That could help him compete with former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney for the party's pro-business wing and make him a formidable challenger in the November 2012 election. He is the longest serving governor in Texas history, taking over from George W Bush after he became president in 2000.

Analysts said Perry has the visibility and fund-raising network to make a successful entry into the race, even though it comes months after other leading contenders.

A Perry candidacy could steal support from Michele Bachmann, a favourite of the conservative Tea Party movement, replacing her as Romney's top rival and potentially narrowing the gap between the party's establishment centre and rightwing activists.

Just a reminder --   a predicted a few months ago that  Governor Perry would be one of the two candidates on the GOP national ticket in 2012 ...   I am still predicting that.

“And yet our opponents tell us not to interfere with abortion. They tell us not to impose our morality on those who wish to allow or participate in the taking of the life of infants before birth. Yet no one calls it imposing morality to prohibit the taking of life after a child is born. We’re told about a woman’s right to control her own body. But doesn’t the unborn child have a higher right, and that is to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?” – Ronald Reagan

He was Al Gores campaign manager, nuff said.

Then Perry can't be all that bad.

Perry is right .. we need to stop running the printing press to pay our bills.  I don't have much use for Bernanke or Geitner or Paulsen  ---  I believe they at least knew the meltdown was coming in 2007/2008 and did nothing.. but frankly I believe they (and the whole Big Banking community)  were complicit in causing the meltdown .. and then stealing a trillion dollars from the tax payers.

What Perry said is right but does he truly believe it? Only 1 man was bringing up the Federal Reserve and it's policies during the last election and he was laughed at. Today though you have many jumping on the bandwagon when it comes to bashing the fed, Perry is bashing them, Bachmann is bashing them, Cain is bashing them, Gingrinch bashed them as well. I have a tough time believing these candidates when knowing their history, hell Herman Cain worked for the federal reserve for crying out loud.

You've noticed that the candidates are slowly stealing Ron Paul's platform too?  It was funny during the debate when Gingrich acted as if he ALWAYS called for an audit of the Fed.  Now...Turning on the printing presses is treasonous.  Where were these voices during the TARP bailout of the banks?  SILENT!!!  Except for who??? Yup...You guessed it - RON PAUL.

Perry is Bush 2.0 and that's who the media wants to see as the Republican nominee.  Obama's been running against Bush's record for almost 3 years.  What a coincidence, the media has catapulted Perry to the lead political stories.  When MSNBC is saying Perry is the Republican candidate that has the best shot at beating Obama...That's when you know he is the next McCain being served up for the slaughter.

You don't have freedom because you are a hyphenated American; you have freedom because you are an individual, and that should be protected.

Funny you mention where were they during TARP, well it seems Rick Perry was all for it

If that isn't bad enough he also took $22,000,000,000 in the last Stimulus package, so much for him disliking that funny money.

the politicos are pre-picked and groomed....they are NOT grown out of a vacuum.....

Obama isn't some 'lucky' vote.....he was groomed(blackman as pres)
Bachman isn't some 'lucky' runner....she was/is groomed (woman as pre)

the only reason Hillary didn't get it is because her husband DID 'F' it up for her on character basis and no one wanted a scored woman as pres...
but they are damn good as a secretary(get it) of state.....she has ALOT more power and prestige without the agravation of popular vote or
sienna polls
