Our state lost a great former governor and a great man over the weekend - my condolences to the Carey family.

“And yet our opponents tell us not to interfere with abortion. They tell us not to impose our morality on those who wish to allow or participate in the taking of the life of infants before birth. Yet no one calls it imposing morality to prohibit the taking of life after a child is born. We’re told about a woman’s right to control her own body. But doesn’t the unborn child have a higher right, and that is to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?” – Ronald Reagan

(It is sad that a certain malcontent has to sully this thread with his vile personal attacks -- but that just proves why that malcontent was defeated by the electorate when he ran for town board 2 years ago and why many folks no longer patronize his business.)

I consider it a great privilege to have met Governor Carey on several occasions.  He was a good man -- a hero in World War II  -- and ranks among the best governors that this state has ever produced.

My condolences to the Carey family...but DMOR, you would not think he was such a great Governor if you were one of the people laid off from State job day after he was sworn in...and at same time he created dozen no-show high paying jobs for his cronies.  I do feel bad he has passed and I feel bad for his family.  But I do not believe he was as great a Governor as you seem to imply.....sorry!  This is not a proper place to debate it further, but I just had to get that out....sorry!

Any people laid off on the 1st day of a new governor's administration would have been a political appointee from the previous administration.   It is the incoming governor's prerogative to replace those appointees with his/her own appointees.   Political appointee know that when they take that kind of job -- that they will be sacked when administrations change --- that comes with the territory.

I would have to check the historical record to confirm your claim .. At the moment, I don't believe that you are telling the truth.   However -- given what I know about you from your stupid comments on this website .. I would say that Governor Carey did a great service to the taxpayers of the state by getting rid of you.

I don't know you .. and you have given me no indication that ANYTHING you post here can be trusted solely because it comes from you.  And don't be upset -- you aren't the only poster whom I don't trust.

I have been carefully reviewing archival materials from the period -- and have found ABSOLUTELY NO evidence that Hugh Carey laid off any state workers on his 1st or 2nd day in office  --- the only people replaced in thoseearly days of the Carey Administration were political appointees.

The layoffs in New York City due to its fiscal crisis did not happen until several months into the Carey Administration .. and I have found no evidence of state employee layoff notices being issued on January 1 or January 2 - 1975.

I will continue to research the matter -- but I find it quite ironic that the poster who claims to support lower taxes and less government  (all while wanting to impose a confiscatory tax on people who VOLUNTARILY choose to to donate money for their town's parks and recreation system)  is all upset that he lost his supposed state job.

You of all people make such a claim, when the whole issue between us started when I asked you to provide the source of information you were posting. To date you have provided absolutely nothing to support claims yuo make when asked for it...you just play your usual dumba$$ word dance.  Either you are a total moron or a simpleton...either way you are a waste of oxygen!

You are a total moron trying to put words in my mouth about lower taxes, etc.  You obviously have a difficult time understanding the English language and written word. As for susbstantiating that I was layed off along with the others and that no show jobs were created for newly created commisoners/deputy commisioners postions, I have no clue how to support it for you. I was a designer with the Bureau of Space Planning and Allocation....call them up or call one of your loser political friends and ask them if I worked there and when the lay off occurred and how many were layed off.    The fact you are glad I was layed off again shows what a low life waste of human flesh you are. The ironic thing is I along with the others, understood the layoff...even though we were victims of it.  What hurt was to see that he created the no-show high paying new positions shortly thereafter. If the state couldn't afford the workers, how could they afford the new "political" thank you jobs that were created? Go look up whatever you want.  I know what happened, becuase unlike you I was there, and
I HAD A JOB and still do
WORKED FOR A LIVING and still do
PAID TAXESand still do
CONTRIBUTE POSITIVELY TO THE STATE; THE COMMUNITY AND MY COUNTRY and stlil do...UNLIKE YOU, MORON!

You want to come at me with your written crap, go right ahead.  You have been a loser all your life, you are a loser today and you always will be.

CORRECTION:
I must apologize if I may be wrong on "when" the layoffs happened.  I cannot find my records, so to say it was days after his election would be questionable.  I honestly cannot pinpoint when they happened, other than they happened!

He really was a good Governor...but you have to know that the situation I explained sticks out in my mind because of the politcal crap.  If it had not been for Carey, NYC would have been fiancially destroyed.
