ROTTERDAM Hurdle to development may be rescinded shortly BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Justin Mason at 395-3113 or jmason@dailygazette.net.
Critical impact legislation passed in the aftermath of a controversial Walmart Supercenter proposal could soon be coming off the books in Rotterdam without ever being utilized. Last week, town offi cials agreed to set a public hearing during their August meeting to review the law enacted and passed by the Town Board’s Republican majority in 2006. The law essentially gave the board veto capabilities over large developments approved by the Planning Commission. Under the legislation, developers building a project larger than 100,000 square feet would be required to obtain a critical impact permit through the Town Board. The law also included any building higher than 60 feet, any development with more than 75 dwellings, any business including more than 50 employees and any project with a seating capacity of more than 200 persons. Before granting a permit, the Town Board could require studies on items not considered by the commission. This could include everything from the project’s effect on the town economy to its impact on air and water quality. ..........................>>>>..............................>>>>........................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01604&AppName=1

another one of Mertz's, Parisi's and the GOP's stupid ideas -- the critical impact legislation MUST be rescinded ... Mertz and Parisi have stifled economic development in Rotterdam for too long.
and if Mertz's comrade-in-arms - McGarry - is elected .. Rotterdam will become an economic ghost town. |
| “And yet our opponents tell us not to interfere with abortion. They tell us not to impose our morality on those who wish to allow or participate in the taking of the life of infants before birth. Yet no one calls it imposing morality to prohibit the taking of life after a child is born. We’re told about a woman’s right to control her own body. But doesn’t the unborn child have a higher right, and that is to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?” – Ronald Reagan |

If Buffardi and Calder are elected - Rotterdam will become just a borough of the City and become an over taxed Cop Town. |

Rotterdam is a bedroom community, pure and simple. It has minimal industry at the Industrial Park and Golub. There also is very little property available for development. The sooner politicians accept Rotterdam for what it is, and match the tax base for services accordingly, the happier the residents will be. Did you see Global Foundries come here, or even consider here? NO! The infrastructure is podunk and the Town can only attract MFRH and tractor trailer traffic. The CIP was a safety valve to deep six huge projects that could have a severe negative impact on the Town. Its use was designed to thwart the most egregious of projects assuming it could jump through the hoops of the Planning Commission and receive approval. Rotterdam became an economic ghost town when GE scaled back. It killed the City and Rotterdam. Quit trying to politcize something that is only correlated to economic conditions! |

This will be yet another nail in the coffin of the rotterdam dems. First, this town board has enough attorneys that the taxpayer'salready pay for. Taking the advice from Brick, who coincidentally represents the developers, is a slap in the rotterdam taxpayer's face!! I almost spit out my adult drink while watching the video of Brick convince the town board to vote 'yes' on a project while the taxpaid attorney who sits on the town board sat silently!! This is exactly what the rotterdam residents want protection from.
Tommasone's administration was re-elected, in part because of this legislation. The rotterdam residents felt that there was another layer to protect them from irresponsible development that has gotten rotterdam into the sh!thole it is in since REVITALIZE ROTTERDAM aka REUNITE ROTTERDAM aka ROTTERDAM2011. Something they knew was the status quo with the rotterdam 'friends and family club'.
The planning and zoning boards are just there to do the leg work and present their findings to the town board. If this legislation gets changed now.........rotterdamians will see more catastophes like Masullo and other developments! The town board is ELECTED 'by the people' and should be the final decision maker and held responsible for each and every decision that is made for the towns folks.
If this rotterdam town board votes 'yes' to abolish this legislation.....they will be showing the rotterdam taxpayers that they are just passing off their responsibility to those who will and can never be held accountable.
Just another nail in the democon's coffin!! |

Still better than Mertz and Parisi all day long. Those two guys, although adversaries, nearly destroyed the town. Damage is still being fixed at the hands of those two blubbering, back biting, bumbling egomaniacs! |

No the damage Gerry and Mertzie did to the GOP. Destroyed it from within. Major blame lies at the feet of Mertzie's rabbis, Carolina Lazzari and Steven Tomassone and Parisi's is his own worse enemy. Clash of ego's that ruined the Rep Party. Next up is the Lazzari/Mertz factor with McGarry. Deep six these two for your own good BM! |

The truth is.................the tommasone administration was for development............'responsible development' that would not effect the quality of life for the residents. And the tommasone administration was willing to accept full responsibility for any and all new developments. They did not try to shrug their responsibility off on the zoning/planning board!! THEY TOOK FULL RESPONSIBILITY!! Unlike the democons!!!
The democons should be ashamed of themselves, voting 'yes' because of the ploy from an outside attorney that was representing the developer!!! While the town attorney sat silent!! UNBELIEVABLE!!
If rotterdamians allow this piece of legislation to go away............rotterdam will continue to be on the road to decline under the leadership of the democons!! |

I don't know if the Tommasone Administration was really for development or not. The one thing I would agree with is that they seemed to find a good way to spend lots and lots of money on studying everything. It ended up that they studied all the time, but never really took any of the tests, with the exception of inally making a decision on the Wal-Mart at Triangle 13. |

The decision on WalMart was as tainted as Mertzie's underwear after he got dumper by Gerry whose lawfirm was paid to keep the Golub competition out of that side of town! |

EVERYONE acknowledged that the rotterdam triangle was not a responsible location for a super walmart!! It would have not only been a quality of life issue for the residents, but a safety issue due to backed up traffic and the train track. All too close to Jefferson Elementary school. |
