Seriously - they allowed this guy to rant for 10 minutes about cats? But they'll shut up others at 4 minutes?
It's like a dang circus up there. How ridiculous.

Not just cats without owners....but especially cats with "owners"...which I believe should be defined as any caretaker of these animals. Cat owners should be made to contain their cats...whether by keeping them indoors, which any animal health professional would tell you is the best thing for a cat...or with some type of the many enclosures now available specifically for cats... and they should be held responsible for the array of damages and health hazards associated with their cats....just as dog owners.
The man who spoke on this subject last night raised a number of common problems that arise with a cat population that continues to rise exponentially...among which was the problem of cats that "belong" to someone caught when trapping strays....all the more reason to keep them indoors.
This is obviously not the first time these complaints have emerged...and until elected officials get serious about effectively addressing this issue, I can assure you it won't be the last...it is a widespread problem that IMO should be solved at the state level. As much as I hate the word "regulation", I think legislative controls should be adopted with the intentional goal of stabilizing and eventually reducing the stray cat population...and a commitment to enforcing those measures.
As a side note...in the course of research during the process of passing the cat law, I found out that in most other states, people just treat stray cats as any other nuisance animal and shoot them. Can you imagine what would happen if we did that here in occupied NYS??? lol

Move out next to the supervisor, that is why he doesn't live in a congested area, and this guy shouldn't either. |

This problem is not limited to "congested areas"...maybe they should trap the strays and leave them at the homes of elected officials who don't get it...see how they like 'em. |

Just make them leave their little leather cat chaps and cat-o-nine tails where you picked them up seeing as these cats are so kinky. That is how serious I view this problem when compared to the fact that we are slipping into bankruptcy at every level of government. |

I wasn't suggesting this is a priority...only that is a widespread problem of legitimate concern that will continue to grow for as long as it is ignored...along the path to the tyranny that will result from the issues you mention. |

Feral cats are a problem in rural areas as well as suburban and urban areas. The only way to enforce the lawsand remedy the problem would be to hire a full-time animal control officer -- that costs a lot of money -- and since a majority of the residents didn't even think paying taxes for animal service ( a service that would protect and save HUMAN lives) was worth it .. I doubt there would be support for tax dollars being spent on stray cats. |

Yet no one calls it imposing morality to prohibit the taking of life after a child is born. We’re told about a woman’s right to control her own body. But doesn’t the unborn child have a higher right, and that is to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?” – Ronald Reagan |

Speaking of animal control, I was down at Rotterdam Square the other day. I saw the Animal Control truck driving around in the parking lot down there. Was there some sort of call where there was a need for them down there? I didn't see any animals that needed rangling there, and if there's so many cats around that need to be caught, shouldn't they have been working on that? I just wouldn't think that would be a place for animal control. |
