the legislation regarding charter schools should be repealed ... and replaced with  vouchers that can be used at any public or private school in the state

“And yet our opponents tell us not to interfere with abortion. They tell us not to impose our morality on those who wish to allow or participate in the taking of the life of infants before birth. Yet no one calls it imposing morality to prohibit the taking of life after a child is born. We’re told about a woman’s right to control her own body. There should be charter schools AND vouchers. Then the people would have even more choices.

actually .. with a charter school .. the people .. the taxpayers have  NO CHOICE ....  there is not a single charter school whose  school board or budget are voted on by the taxpayers

the very proposal being discuss in this thread is an  excellent example of how bad the idea of charter school sis  ----  a legitimate concern (the veterans) are willing to renovate the ENTIRE building and turn it into something useful  (apartments) but instead a charter school is being shoved down Rotterdam residents throats --- and the way the laws allowing charter schools is written .. we residents have NO VOTE on the matter ... NO RECOURSE .. justbend over and be screwed once again by a damned charter school

If there were a good charter school in Schenectady would parents send their kids to the charter school or the Schenectady public school system with it's 50% graduation rate and constant gang violence. Charter schools are historically non union so the teachers unions are opposed to them.

and why are charter schools given the legal right -- to take tax money from our public school systems and to take a building  (the old Draper school) which was in the process of being redeveloped   ????????????????????

the whole charter school law needs to be repealed -- immediately

Unfortunately the veterans didn't get the money needed to go forward with their plans in a timely manor and the deal fell through. Mohonasen is a good school that still graduates educated kids. I was just showing where a charter school would be very beneficial but the teachers unions fight tooth and nail to prevent them from being formed. If the charter schools are educating the children in a given area then they should get a proportional benefit from the school tax to support their school.

The school is not for Rotterdam.  Some of us neighbors met with these people at the library a couple of weekends ago.  This would be for Schenectady students bussed into Rotterdam.  We the neighbors are totally opposed to this.  The building is flooded due to pipes busting and is filled with black mold.  Another big bucks project.  We would much rather see the veterans get the building.

There would be a tax decrease if all public school students had the charter/voucher options.
It sounds like public input will be restricted by the education cartel....and they don't want a public record for all to review.
I suspect there will be vigorous competition for the limited seats as is usually the case with these schools....especially if
they prove to be successful.
