ROTTERDAM
Police-court facility cost so far: $76K

BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter

There have been three studies and more than $76,000 spent, but Rotterdam is still no closer to getting a shovel in the ground for a new public safety facility.
The recent $2,000 study funded by the town last month determined that the old Grand Union site on Hamburg Street would require roughly $1.2 million to bring the property “to a starting point” for the construction of a $10.9 million facility, Deputy Supervisor Robert Godlewski reported this week. But Clough Harbor Associates — the engineering firm that has conducted all three exploratory studies the town has commissioned since 2004 — will need an additional $2,000 to break down the cost of the project further.
Godlewski said the town would ideally bring the cost of the building down to $7 million by possibly limiting the size of the building. He said the engineer was calculating the cost assuming the combined court and police building would use a square footage outlined in Clough Harbor’s 2008 study.
“[Clough Harbor] basically used one number for the total square footage,” he said.
Clough Harbor was hired to review the space needed for the new public safety facility and then develop a functional design for the building. The $35,900 contract with the firm was partially funded by a $25,000 state grant the town received in 2007.
The study proposed allocating 28,000 square feet for the Rotterdam police alone, which is more than double the space now shared by the court and police off Princetown Road. The court would be allotted about 11,000 square feet, which is only 3,000 square feet less than the existing building.
In total, the study called for 39,890 square feet plus 177 parking spaces. The building proposed in the study included a training room, a crime lab, gym, six interview rooms, a 250-seat court gallery and holding cells for up to 15 prisoners. .....................>>>>...........................>>>>...........................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01202&AppName=1

Since Bob G was elected he hasn't opposed one spending bill that's been proposed like he used to when the Reps were in control, what a hypocrite.

Let's see them try to sell this to the rotterdam taxpayers!!

Just what rotterdam wants is another property taken off the tax roll and being funded by them as well!!!

You would think they would have learned from the results of the overwhelming NO vote for a rems taxing district.

And where is the hundreds of thousands of missing als $$$$ ?

And where has the als $$$$ been going since January 1?

What happened to the area in Galesi's corporate park for the public safety building that was proposed a few years ago?
