The town already owns the Curry Road Shopping Plaza  ---- that site is more centrally located --- that site is large enough to build a  Municipal Center with  a Town Hall, Police Station, Justice Court,  Multi-generational Community Center  and space for the Highway Department.

Move all these town operations onto one campus --- that is already off the tax rolls --- as the municipal center is built   .. sell off the old police station, town hall, senior center , highway department building  -- and put them back on the tax rolls.

As for the grand Union building --- bite the bullet and invest in sewer lines down Hamburg Street from the bridge to Fort Hunter Road   --- let that corridor have the infrastructure it needs to prosper and flourish.

With this, I'll agree.

With the present state of our economy (a deep recession) and the economic future looking dim, and with continued federal and state cuts, which in turn places a higher tax burden on smaller municipalities..........this is not the time to ask taxpayers to spend $8M on non emergency projects. And this is clearly NOT an emergency in rotterdam!

There should be a moratorium on new spending and a closer look at cutting spending. People are living in homes that are devaluating daily. People are out of work....there are no jobs. Food is rising weekly. Gas is still unsustainable. Sales tax revenue is down (although the plex will tell you differently). Mortgage taxes are down. Schools are cutting back or raising taxes. People are stil losing their homes or just walking away from them since they can no longer afford them.

BUT rotterdam is considering spending $8M on a police station!!!

This is clearly NOT an emergency and not taxpayer's money well spent. Put it up for a vote to the rotterdam taxpayers FIRST!!....k?

This is something a person who never owned a business wouldn't understand. Businesses need customers, before they needs sewers or any other amenities. Unfortunately you would just be increasing their overhead without adding to their customer base and that would include only the businesses that survived while the street was torn up for 9 months during the work. The other ones, having been killed because the usuals' refused to wade through the construction zone would already be gone leaving more vacancies. Some government "cures" are far worse than the sicknesses.

To the point of the police station, for 7 mil. plus the acquisition costs, I am thrilled this is what the democraps are basing their campaign on. Thank you,- the townspeople are so upset that their is not a swankier place for the chief and his cronies to set all day, and are highly embarrassed that the police station and court is not up to Donald Trump style standards. They would love to make it so that the highest paid municipal employees in town will have a stationhouse befitting their status, and you can convince them further of the dire need. I know that with an all-law enforcement ticket, this will be on all the brochures.

The police department and town justice court is housed in a building that is about 100 years old and in very bad condition --- so it is not a frivolous idea -- replacing it is actually a necessity.

The Democratic ticket is NOT basing their campaign on building a new police station -- the issue is NOT the most important or even in the top 3 issues ... but it is an issue that at least needs to be discussed during the next 2 year term.

Most residents of Rotterdam WANT a new town park  .. the town has owned the land for this park for 16 years ...  and security and emergency response will not be a problem.

Yeah, it will all be free too. Maybe the police will have higher morale and will be more productive with a new station too. Saves money. Sure.

Most?  I hardly doubt that every resident was called, and we KNOW there wasn't a vote on the issue - so define "most"

Joe Surhada, you are such a loser ....  you KNOW that the Rotterdam Police Station/Town Justice Court is housed in a building which is quite old, too small and in very decrepit condition ...    and you KNOW that  YOUR OWN PARTY proposed developing a  MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE park on the same site in Rotterdam Junction.
.. so why are you so against a new police station and the new park NOW?????

Petty Jealousy seems like the answer ...  because you are such a loser that you knew the voters of your old County Leg District wouldn't reelect you -- so you ran for Town Board -- and got your butt whipped because you were such a useless piece of crap on the County Leg.     All you and Farley ever did was TEAR DOWN your community/county by opposing everything that the Democrats proposed -- opposed it just for spite because you two are such shallow partisan hacks.

The County has a lot better morale since you - Joe Surhada (GB)  left the County Leg .. and the town is certainly breathing a HUGE sigh of relief that you didn't get elected to the town board in 2009.   So go back into the hole you slithered out of  ..and let this community move forward and prosper.
