Re: the pool at Mohon.  The Meyers School in Albany, one of the newest built schools, has a pool.  They now have a senior night that your former Senior director lobbyed for with the district and the mayor.Took her some time, but she got buy-in from the politicos in Albany especially the Republican ones who are few and far between.  That was announced before Christmas. Tell somebody in Rotterdam to get on it.  Should be a lot easier to pull off in Rotterdam than Albany.

The Parks and Recreation Commission is attempting to work with the school districts and ALL of the various sports leagues and groups within town to make the best possible use of our existing facilities.

As for being easier or harder to pull off -- mmm -- the jury is still out.  Let's just say that progress has been made but there are still obstacles to overcome.   It didn't help that certain folks in town hall tried to politicize the commission.

Parks and recreation is working along with the school districts? Does this mean that the Rotterdam Little League will be moving to one of the high school / middle school campuses, since the new park has not yet even had the ground broken yet? When is this project supposed to start? Has the County Government spent our money on buying the land yet?  Or was this just something they were using at another time to get a few votes?

First - you don't even know my position on the leaf bags -- and that is irrelevant to the issue.

Second - residents were surveyed in 2009 and almost 80% said that they wanted a multi-generational community center  and were willing to pay more in taxes for it -----

Third -  the as-yet not fully developed proposal would MOST LIKELY not cost the property tax payers a penny  and would allow  2 now tax-exempt properties to be sold and put back on the property tax rolls.

So ---   all I am asking is -- don't attack a proposal that hasn't even been formally made and of which you don't even know anything about   .. primarily because it is way too early in the process to even discuss specifics or generalities.

My understanding is that groundbreaking will be sometime this year  ...  there was a delay because an agreement had to be reached with the bird club (an adjoining property)  on some matter.

The Rotterdam Little League has not asked the Parks and Recreation Commission for any assistance in planning or raising funds for the facility.    Technically, the land is owned by the county -- so it is out of our jurisdiction.   If the county turns it over to the town as park land -- then it would be in our jurisdiction.

propose all you want...I'm sure it's pretty and I'm sure it feels just right goldilocks.......and I'm sure it would be a crowning jewel after we pull up our
bootstraps and make a comp plan with utility/patina/class and rearrange some things we have now....especially contracts and the senior center....

Actually, the Town Parks Plan proposal .. which includes a general proposal to build a multi-generational community center - would become part of the comprehensive plan if approved by the Town Board.

Having a good comp plan is necessary to move forward in a number of areas -- not just with parks and recreation.    The lack of action on part or all of the comp plan --- is another example of how the supervisor and deputy supervisor have failed ....... they WASTE more time creating  new "fires" and haven't addressed the pre-existing "fires" such as the lack of a comp plan.

It's a park that will supposedly be built, and it is within the borders of the Town of Rotterdam.  How would that be out of your jurisdiction?  Maybe the head of the Parks and Recreation Commission shouldn't wait for the Rotterdam Little League to reach out to them, but maybe the Commissioner should be the one reaching out, after all, realizing that it is a park in the town, which is your passion, unless it isn't really.  What difference does the ownership make?  And to that fact, if working together works, then why isn't the Parks and Recreation Committee reaching out to the leaders at the county level to make sure this is moving in the appropriate direction?

At this time, the land is owned by the county -- and therefore is not a town park.  It is my understanding that, eventually, that situation may change but until it does .. the commission doesn't have any jurisdiction over the land or the planning of the facility.

As for your derogatory comments about reaching out to the Little League - we have reached out to the Little League  .. they had a representative to the commission until early last year .. we are attempting to get them to send a representative again.   Both the commission as a whole and myself, individually, are more than ready and willing to help out in anyway.   We await the arrival of their representative at our meetings to further discuss the matter.

I have reached out to the county reps and leaders and we have a good working relationship. We have good working relationships with our member of Congress and our members of the US Senate  who have expressed an interest in our proposals and are working with us.

It is my understanding that it is moving in the "appropriate direction"  and so really -- there isn't a problem.
