The typist was making $37,000?  That is more than the former director made at $34,000 approx.  with a Master's Degreee in Educational Psychology and a long history of experience AND was a former business teacher for Draper High School and did her own secretarial work.  So she saved the town $37,000.  You reps were jerks to throw her out just because your feelings were hurt over a damn sign that you illegally placed on her property. Bwhaawaaa! ROTFLMAO

can you explain this history? well, I'm not so sure it even matters at this point....but what sign and for what? did it have to do with
the senior center or just some political mumbo-jumbo crap....

It appears that this former director was over qualified and overpaid for little redneck rotterdam's senior social club. So is $37K for a typist.

Senior Center director = $34K
Town Supervisor = $15K
Doesn't anyone see a problem here??????

Close the senior social center and save the taxpayers $190K and these frivolous nonsense headaches.

Palleezzzzeeee.......rotterdam has other important issues to deal with such as infrastructure! It's beginning to look like the city. Crime on the rise....vacant buildings.....and a new gin mill with the help of $20K of taxpayer's money.

Yeah the super's job was part time and the director of human services (the proper job title ergo the educational background and experience) was full-time.  Remember Paolino is the one who said he would tkae part time bucks and be at the office full-time which he did.

Sure senders I can fill you in on the background.  But I am sure BT and other known REp thugs wiould hate the exposure.

For Senders---the former director of Human Services who quit Catholic Charities to take the less paying job at the Town also owned a highly sought after vacant property that candidates love to use.  The director, a Dem, "looked the other way" for weeks when the Reps put up an illegal sized campaign sign to vote for JS as Super, ST as council person etc. etc.  The Dem diretor CONTINUED to look the other way until some big-mouth Reps decided at a public fundraiser to make a little folly of (this is HOW very STUPID Rotterdam Reps are) the fact that the Director was hired by the Dem. Super Paolino  but she was sporting the Rep sign.  Because of Republican stupidity that included the famous HV, the director had no choice but take the sign down  several times which the REps continued to put back up until the Director called the police and said she was taking ownership of the sign if it was not removed in an hour.  Reps didn't remove it so the director white washed the sign removing all candidates names and replaced  those names with a message "Give Peace a Chance."  Finally JS showed up and admitted he was on private property without permission that year to post the sign.  So Buchanan, Mertz, and the very stupid ST decided that if they got the majority the first person ousted would be the Director.  Unfortunately, they had no just cause to remove the director so they had to have the job abolished.  That's the background Senders--political BS but it still serves to point out how bad Rep thinking is in this town.  If they HAD ASKED PERMISSION, the sign would have stayed.  The owner of the property NEVER says no to anyone who asks first...except NO National Rep candidates are ever permitted.  This story can be verified by KR.  There were also MANY Reps who were infuriated by the move including CL and GS.  The bad news for Mr. Mertz, and crowd, is that our former Governor George Patacki was angry at such political nonsense and wanted to intervene because he was incredulous at just how stupid Rotterdam Reps were.  Sometimes you just don't know who is haging out with whom!  Mertz looked like a huge fool--bigger than ST.  And Mertz should thank the former director that he stayed where he was.  All of this can once again be verified by Gadfly.

However, the story ends happily for the former director.  She has been involved in a cutting edge project leading the way in "aging in place" initiatives and was then elected the chair of the Schdy County Long-term Advisory Council and happily works on these issues on a state level as well as with Mike Breslin and Jerry Jennings.

think...barriers to entry...Today the political world is controlled by two parties. If you predict that in 10 years there will be several major parties then I would suggest that you place a wager where if you win, everyone here will glorify you. If you lose then make a great contribution to charity. My money says there will be two parties, and if you fracture the conservative coalition further the communistic monolith will never be overcome, and then there will be one. Some think that is what you want, Mike. A bigger, stronger democrap party. You were the only member of your coalition to not get involved or assist conservative candidacies or causes further such causes as of late. If the GOP endorses a slate that you like, will you work to defeat the democraps?

What it boills down to is that there is already a party that stands for the things you believe in but because you want to remain politically correct you insist on calling for a splinter group.

I wasn't making predictions, merely making observations and stating some beliefs.  The barriers to entry you mention is a huge part of the problem and needs to be addressed too.  Who created the barriers? Oh yeah...the 2 major parties...another reason an alternative makes sense.

You seem to see things in extremes and only in black and white when in fact, the world is gray.

Some think that is what you want, Mike. A bigger, stronger democrap party.  LOL.  That's ludicrously funny!

As far as my past/present/future "involvement" I respectfully submit you're not sufficiently informed.

BM is a republican. I support BM.

Help me understand....Brian is a former Conservative, recently enrolled Republican, who ran independently once and is doing so again.  I'm a lifelong Republican, currently enrolled Republican, who ran and legitimately won a Republican Primary but never received Republican Party support before or afterwards and nearly pulled off an overall win.... but I'm viewed as secretly wanting to make the Democrat Party stronger?  Are you kidding me?

I think the problem you have with me is I like to think for myself rather than have someone tell me what I should think.

I just wanted to have a therapy session....because it proves a few points

1. we dont need a senior center
2. it doesn't matter which major party is in control
3. we're doomed if either party and  the gumbas keep getting re-elected

NNTP or NNCOLA....I dont care what it's called....we need to start fresh

therapy session is over....time to move on...pat eachother on the back and retire already......the future is coming and we need to clean house

Sometimes you just don't know who is haging out with whom!

either way as a voter it is assumed

1. they all rub elbows
2. making decisions require 1 of 2 things
  a. the leader knew and did nothing which is lying
  b. the leader didn't know and did nothing which is ineptitude
3. these rules apply to both parties and all the gumbas involved in party switching/hacking

again i support the concept of being conservative but the "marketing" of "no new taxes" can not produce results thus it is false advertising in this towns current state

again "no new taxes" seems to relate to no new added union positions(csea, cops, appointments) and the shuffling of existing monies for efficiency- makes sense -any candidate from any party can do this

but "no new taxes" cannot relate to new taxes in contracted COLA increases, raises, building maintance and inflation
all of which are going to hit us hard given the fed has released $600billion in cash into the money stream to keep our past liabilities cheap

if i am to cast my vote i dont want retohric i want to see some hard numbers laid out

please bring forth more than a false marketing clause - this clause makes this group no different from those currently in power

again my argument is not with the intent

You're right about it not being simplistic - and despite the simple-soundinging "no new taxes" slogan we used, we knew (and I think those that voted for us understood) it was more complex to achieve.  Specifically, the phrase related to the proposed tax district as an example of the overall tax burden.  But it wasn't intended as a gimmick.  In fact, every election, every hopeful politician winds up on our doorstep promising tax relief they never deliver - we encountered that rightful skepticism and had a lot of explaining to do to effectively convey that we intended to be the guys that would actually deliver.  That's a hard sell, especially when you're an equally concerned citizen running for office as opposed to a slick politician seeking re-election.

As far as what to cut - cut everything not contractually obligated by an across the board percentage to achieve 0% increase.  Equal pain, if you will. Then bargain tougher when the contracts come due to reduce costs in the future.  That combination, I believe, is an approach that will rapidly help identify the priorities. What I think the priorities are and what you think the priorities are could be vastly different, but with 5 cooperating Town Board members diligently doing the job they were elected to do, we'd have the necessary public discussions to collectively figure the priorities out.

respectfully thank you,

i too would like to see contracts limitted to the CPI or some function of CPI max

but i also welcome changes that will make "Rotterdam a nice place to live and work" - because I do and plan to contiunue - thus i am willing to pay for these changes through town initiaves

that being said i support
cleaning up our main streets
working with our assessment team to ensure accurate inventories, and keeping all properties assessed at a mean value to encourage improvement in the exteriors of all buildings
removing all non compliant signs
investing in proper curbing and sidewalks
investing in all infrastructure - info, electric, sewers, water
adopting a rock solid comp plan that is updated every 10 years

You mean even a trash collector made more money than the former director?  Do not misunderstand I am sure the trash person deserved his salary but what a shame the former director was taken for such a ride.  She left a job that paid ten k more.
