Aide allegedly stole $3K from patient
    SCHENECTADY — A home health aide stands accused of taking $3,000 from a person she was supposed to be helping, authorities said.
    At least some of the incidents were caught on video, according to papers filed in court.
    Audrey R. Hurlburt, 29, of Main Street, Schoharie, was charged Wednesday with one count of fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony.
    She is accused of taking the money between May 1 and June 25 at various times as she worked as a home health aide for a patient on Fifth Street, according to papers filed in court.


Police accuse man of raping child
    SCHENECTADY — Police say a city man raped a child under the age of 15.
    Andy K. Hariraj, 20, of Elliott Avenue, was charged Monday with two counts of first-degree rape and one count of second-degree rape, felonies.
    He is accused of sex acts with the victim dating back to 2010, when he was 18 years old, according to papers filed in court.
    Hariraj also faces multiple misdemeanor counts, the papers indicate.


Teen faces felony in headphone theft
    SCHENECTADY — A city teen is in trouble for stealing a set of headphones, police say.
    Khalil K. Bonds, 17, of Kelton Avenue, was charged Tuesday with one count of second-degree robbery, a felony, and fi fth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor.
    He is accused of jumping on the victim’s back on State Street, near Henry Street, just after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and taking the headphones. The headphones were valued at $350, according to papers filed in court.


Police: Man broke in, took cellphone
    SCHENECTADY — A Bronx man is accused of breaking into a woman’s home and taking a cellphone last year, authorities said.
    Frank Bartlett Jr., 31, of the Bronx, was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree robbery, felonies.
    He is accused of breaking into the woman’s apartment on Maplewood Avenue on Jan. 1, 2011, and forcibly taking the cellphone from her hand, according to papers fi led in court.
    Bartlett also faces one count of first-degree criminal contempt, accused of pushing the woman through a folding door in November 2010, violating an order of protection, according to papers.


Man allegedly took tools from garage
    SCHENECTADY — A city man was arrested for allegedly entering a garage and taking tools, authorities said.
    Alexander Sabat, 35, of 905 Brandywine Ave., was charged Thursday with one count of third-degree burglary, a felony, along with petty larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, misdemeanors.
    He is accused of breaking into the garage on Elmer Avenue just after 11 a.m. Thursday and taking a string trimmer and a lawn mower, according to papers filed in court.

Bail increased in
alleged gunfire

    SCHENECTADY — The man accused of firing nearly 20 rounds from an assault rifle on the bike path near Manhattan Street last week will have to come up with another $20,000 bail to be freed again, according to an agreement reached Wednesday morning.
    Luis J. Gomez, 30, of 1513 Van Vranken Ave., appeared in Schenectady County Court for what was to be a hearing on his bail status.
    He was prepared to present a number of witnesses who would have testified that he never left a Manhattan Street party during the time of the July 4 incident. Prosecutor Ed Moynihan indicated in court that he would have called his own witnesses at the hearing, had it gone forward.
    Prosecutors and the defense, however, came to an agreement on a total new bail of $50,000. Gomez had already posted $30,000.
    He faces one count of fi rst-degree reckless endangerment in the shooting case. No one was injured.
    Gomez had been out on $10,000 bail posted in an earlier marijuana case when the gunfi re erupted.
    He is accused of firing 19 shots on the bike path near the dead end of Manhattan Street around 8:30 p.m. July 4.
Gomez’s attorney, Glen Brownell, has said the case against his client is weak.


Woman charged in domestic incident
SCHENECTADY — A woman faces a felony charge in a domestic dispute, authorities said. Tina M. Terry, 42, of 1508 Rugby Road, was charged Saturday with second-degree assault, a felony. She is accused of throwing a candle holder Saturday morning at her boyfriend, hitting him above his eye. The man was treated for a cut, according to papers filed in court.
    Terry also faces one count each of fourth-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration, all misdemeanors.


Man charged with
destroying evidence

    SCHENECTADY — A city man allegedly destroyed a crack pipe in an attempt to keep offi cers from fi nding it, authorities said, resulting in more serious charges being filed against him
    Jacob J. Kownack, 33, of 133 Elm St., was charged Monday with one count of tampering with physical evidence, a felony.
    He is accused of walking away from officers Monday evening on Hulett Street as they told him to stop, then dropping a glass pipe he was seen smoking out of, breaking it in the process, according to papers filed in court.
    Kownack also faces one count of second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.


Woman accused of having stolen car
    SCHENECTADY — A city woman stands accused of possessing a stolen car.
    Sissy Provost, 28, of 127 Prospect St., was charged Tuesday with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony.
    Provost is accused of possessing a stolen 2011 Toyota Corolla valued at $20,000 Tuesday on Prospect Street, according to papers filed in court.

City police probe
2 incidents on
State Street

    SCHENECTADY — City police were at the scene of two incidents on State Street on Thursday night — a reported stabbing and an assault — one of which had a portion of the busy thoroughfare closed while police investigate.
    The stabbing was reported just before 9 p.m. Thursday by someone who walked into the Mohawk Ambulance Service office at State and Mynderse streets, according to police spokesman Sgt. Matthew Dearing and emergency radio transmissions.
    Police responded to 812 State St., less than a block from the ambulance service, Dearing said. Later, though, Dearing said police were still unsure what actually happened, with police looking into the validity of the
    Minutes later, shortly after 9 p.m., police were called to the scene of an assault in the area of 1255 State St., Dearing said.
    That investigation prompted police to close State Street between Division and Elm streets as the investigation continued. Police were still on scene just after 10:30 p.m.
    The assault victim was taken to Ellis Hospital McClellan Campus, which is a half mile from the scene. Dearing did not have an indication on the victim’s condition.

into city residence

    SCHENECTADY — Four city residents face burglary charges for allegedly breaking into a residence, authorities said.
    Kenneth D. Sass, 21, of the City Mission, Meredith Thomas, 38, of 1602 Carrie St., Apt. 2, Patrick T. Murphy, 34, of 714 Beaver St., and Andrea Thompson, 47, of 719 Beaver St., were each charged with one count each of second-degree burglary and third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, felonies.
    The four are accused of breaking into a Beaver Street residence Monday evening and taking property worth more than $3,000, according to papers filed in court.


Man arrested on rape charges in city
    SCHENECTADY — A man was arrested this week on rape charges, according to papers filed in court.
    Lakeraj “Willie” Dhanraj, 52, address unavailable, was charged this week with one count each of second- and third-degree rape, along with two counts each of secondand third-degree criminal sexual act, according to papers.
    He is accused of committing the acts Aug. 30 in Schenectady, according to papers.
    Dhanraj remained held Thursday at the Schenectady County Jail on $30,000 bail.

    SCHENECTADY — A city woman stands accused of breaking into a home, authorities said.
    Crystal O. Bright, 23, of 192 Frank St., was charged Thursday with one count of second-degree burglary, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
    She is accused of breaking into a Henry Street residence, damaging property and pushing down a child to try and fight a woman, according to papers filed in court.


Man arrested
in stabbing

    SCHENECTADY — A city man has been charged with an August stabbing, authorities said.
    Luis R. Garcia, 21, of 841 Oakwood Ave., was charged Thursday with one count each of fi rst-degree assault and first-degree gang assault, felonies.
    He is accused, with the help of others, of stabbing the victim repeatedly and punching him Aug. 5 in the area of 418 Schenectady St. The victim suffered a collapsed lung and had to be hospitalized for his injuries, according to papers fi led in court.
    Garcia was arrested Thursday. The same day, two others were arrested and charged with misdemeanor criminal nuisance at the scene of the stabbing. The criminal nuisance charges relate to accusations the individuals occupied the front porch of the residence, “interfering with the public order as well as using illegal substances” — marijuana, according to papers.
    Romero Lundy, 22, of 335 Germania Ave., and Ryan Monforte, 19, of 1022 Bridge St., were charged with felony tampering with physical evidence, accused of hiding bags of marijuana from police after their arrests on the nuisance charges.

Fraudulent returns cited in man’s arrest
    SCHENECTADY — An alleged scheme involving more than $4,300 worth of fraudulent merchandise returns led to the arrest of a Clifton Park man.
    Joseph Matturro, 44, of 1 North Point, was charged Wednesday with one count of third-degree grand larceny, a felony.
    He is accused of creating the false merchandise returns on 26 separate dates at Advanced Auto Parts, 1701 State St., between June 10 and Sept. 4, according to papers filed in court.

possession charges

    SCHENECTADY — Two people face drug indictments in separate cases, Schenectady County District Attorney’s offi cials said.
    Clifford Johnson, 44, of 971 Strong St., was indicted on two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and lesser drug charges.
    Johnson is accused of possessing cocaine and heroin in July at Gerling Street and Van Vranken Avenue, offi cials said.
    Christopher Lenehan, 20, of 1355 Mudge Road, Delanson, was indicted on two counts each of third-degree criminal possession and sale of a controlled substance, as well as lesser charges.
    He is accused of possessing drugs in May and June in Rotterdam, offi cials said.

    SCHENECTADY — A city man stands accused of a June sex assault.
    Pradeep Gobind, 21, of Hawk Street, faces one count of thirddegree rape, a felony.
    He is accused of committing the act in Schenectady during the month of June, according to papers fi led in court.


Schenectady man accused of mischief
    SCHENECTADY — A city man is accused of damaging a car by kicking and scratching it, authorities said.
    Levar Townsend, 358 Georgetta Dix Blvd., was charged Thursday with one count of third-degree criminal mischief, a felony.
    He is accused of kicking the driver’s side door of a car on Albany Street on Aug. 28, as well as scratching the back of the car, according to papers fi led in court.

of punching child

    SCHENECTADY — Police arrested a city man Thursday, charging him with punching an 8-yearold boy in the stomach.
    Quincy R. Pittman, 32, of 1542 Foster Ave. allegedly hit the boy with a closed fist so hard that the victim was vomiting blood and required treatment at Ellis Hospital. The incident took place in late August at Pittman’s residence, according to papers fi led in court.
    Pittman was charged with felony second-degree assault and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.
    He also faces a misdemeanor charge of second-degree criminal trespass and violation-level harassment for allegedly pushing his way into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment.



Church copper theft alleged to city man
    SCHENECTADY — A city man faces multiple charges for allegedly removing copper pipe from a church.
    Brian M. Hoffman, 32, of 811 Stanley St., Apt. 1 allegedly took copper drain pipes from the Higher Group Worship Church at 801 Stanley St. and sold them for scrap.
    During the early morning hours of Sept. 11, Hoffman is alleged to have taken copper that will cost $3,400 to replace and sold it for about $146, according to papers filed in court. He is also accused of entering the church Sept. 29 and taking copper that will cost $3,000 to replace. He also damaged the roof of the church when he took down the copper fl ashing, which will cost around $5,000 to fi x.
    Hoffman was charged with two counts each of third-degree grand larceny and criminal mischief and one count of criminal possession of stolen property.

Jewelry heist alleged to city man
   GUILDERLAND — A Schenectady man faces a burglary count for allegedly breaking into a residence and taking jewelry, police said.
    Jeremy D. Knoblauch, 24, of 463 Shannon St., was charged Wednesday with second-degree burglary, a felony, and other counts.
    He is accused of breaking into the West Lydius Street residence Tuesday.   Knoblauch was arrested Wednesday after police spotted a suspicious vehicle in the Crossgates Mall parking lot and spotted the jewelry, police said.


City teen accused of drug possession   
SCHENECTADY — Police arrested a city teenager Wednesday on drug charges.
    Dwayne A. White, 17, of 924 Ontario St. allegedly had cocaine in his possession in the area of 953 Crane St.
    He was charged two counts of criminal possession controlled substance.

City man charged in church burglary
    SCHENECTADY — Police arrested a city man Thursday for allegedly burglarizing a church back in May.
    Shawn M. Hoffman, 41, of 425 Hamilton St. allegedly entered the Tabernacle Baptist Church at 1401 State St. by smashing a basement window and damaging a door jamb inside. The total value of the damage is about $250, according to papers filed in court.
    He was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary and criminal mischief.


Domestic incident draws felony charge
    SCHENECTADY — A city teenager faces a felony charge for allegedly damaging his mother’s TV.
    Jared M. Giacumo, 17, of 430 Third St., Apt. 2 allegedly punched two holes in a wall and kicked the television Thursday, causing about $630 worth of damage, according to papers filed in court.
    He was charged with third-degree criminal mischief.


Tampering charged in drug incident
    SCHENECTADY — A city man is accused of trying to conceal marijuana by ripping open a bag in the back seat of a patrol car, authorities said.
    Steven R. Collier, 39, of 1215 Albany St., was charged early Wednesday with one count of tampering with physical evidence, a felony, along with violation-level marijuana possession.
    He is accused of possessing the marijuana on Albany Street, just after 2:30 a.m., then having a bag still in his possession in the back seat of the patrol car and trying to hide it by pouring some out, according to papers filed in court.
    Collier also was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree menacing in connection with a January incident, in which he is accused of breaking a table and threatening a woman.

    SCHENECTADY — A city man has been arrested for allegedly having sex with someone under the age of 15, authorities said.  Royan R. Premchan, 21, of Elm Street, was charged Tuesday with one count of second-degree rape, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
    The incident happened Oct. 22 in Schenectady, according to papers filed in court.
