Looks more like an "Ambulette".  Not sure they could get a whole lot of ALS or even BLS equipment in there.

Now you are a expert on ambulances...

The new units are smaller, lighter, and more fuel efficient than the older heavy vans are. It looks like they are built on a Chevy one ton van frame, a very stable platform, and they have more room in them than you'd think.

REMS grant covers two new vehicles
John Purcell 01/25/11

Purchase will help reduce maintenance, fuel costs

The embattled Rotterdam Emergency Medical Services recently secured a federal grant that will allow them to purchase two new ambulances sooner than expected.

“We were definitely pleased about it. … We were waiting a long time to hear about it,” said David Cote, chief of operations for REMS. “That is the nice thing about being a not-for-profit, we have the ability to file for grants and charitable donations.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program awarded REMS $118,215 in grant funding to purchase the vehicles. In 2001 the program was founded to help firefighters and emergency medical organizations purchase needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and any other needed resource. Per the grant agreement, REMS will have to pay 10 percent of the cost, which equals $13,135.

Congressman Paul Tonko, who announced the grant winners on Friday, Jan. 14, noted the important role fire departments and emergency service providers have in a community.

“[The grants] have taken on added importance during this economic slowdown, providing much-needed dollars for departments which are struggling with budget issues,” said Tonko.

The two ambulances being replaced are from 2002, and one has more than 170,000 miles on it; the other ambulance has more than 150,000 miles. The ambulance with the higher mileage is used for a standby crew. The high mileage of the ambulances leads to more repair and maintenance costs, said Cote. Only the highest maintenance cost ambulances are being replaced.

A recent tax district vote failed to pass in Rotterdam, essentially removing public funding to REMS, so the grant is a much-needed shot in the arm to help bolster the company, said Cote. One of the main purposes of the tax district would have been to set aside money every year to help fund the purchase of new ambulances, which would be purchased every five years to comply with industry standards, said Cote.

REMS worked with a grant writer and submitted various applications to help secure funding. The organization also had another application submitted for a federal grant to help with equipment purchases, but Cote said it was denied early in the process.

Two fire departments in the state will also be receiving grants from the program. The Central Bridge Fire District in Schoharie County received $78,232 to make safety upgrades to its fire station with improvements to include a sprinkler system, commercial fire alarm and a diesel exhaust extraction system. The Oppenheim Volunteer Fire Company received $38,000 for operations and safety improvements.

Since REMS was cut off from obtaining tax-free diesel fuel from the Town of Rotterdam’s gas pumps, they recently secured an agreement with Pilot Travel Centers, as their main supplier, and John Ray & Sons, as their backup supplier, to purchase fuel. Since REMS is a not-for-profit company, the taxes can be returned to the company after filing every year...............................>>>>.................>>>>......................http://www.spotlightnews.com/news/view_news.php?news_id=1295990559

There's a PM (private message) option for this.
