ROTTERDAM -- After a failed bid last year to become town supervisor, Brian McGarry is trying again.
On Wednesday, the self-described conservative Republican and tea party supporter, announced his future political plans.
"Today, I begin my campaign to restore the principles of smaller government and fiscal responsibility," McGarry said in a statement. "Too many town residents are struggling to make ends meet and are having trouble finding jobs in this difficult economic environment."
McGarry's campaign manager, Brad Littlefield, said the candidate will be seeking the support of the Conservative, Independent and Republican parties. A formal announcement is scheduled for 5 p.m. Jan. 20 at Canali's Restaurant, 126 Mariaville Road.
In 2009, McGarry, a married father of six, ran on the No New Tax Party independent ballot line, (with) a slate of candidates for town and Schenectady County offices. They opposed the creation of any new tax districts and pushed for freezing the property tax rate.
McGarry is employed as a sixth-grade teacher at the Duanesburg Central Schools and owns McGarry Photography.
Democrat Francis Del Gallo currently holds the supervisor post.

I disagree. I actually think that bringing Mr. Littlefield on brings an air of conservatism that Mr. McGarry may not always show. Brad is well known for his conservative views. Brian is less known and people don't know his views as much. |

Brian McGarry Announces Campaign for Town of Rotterdam Supervisor
Rotterdam, NY – Brian McGarry, long time resident, conservative Republican, Tea Party supporter, and
outspoken critic of the creation of a new ambulance taxing district announced today his candidacy for
Town of Rotterdam Supervisor. His formal announcement takes place on January 20th at 5:00 pm at
Canali’s Restaurant located at 126 Mariaville Road, Rotterdam.
“Today, I begin my campaign to restore the principles of smaller government and fiscal responsibility”,
said McGarry. “Too many town residents are struggling to make ends meet and are having trouble
finding jobs in this difficult economic environment.“
The candidate also announced the appointment of Brad Littlefield as his campaign manager. Littlefield
was acknowledged in the election night victory speech of Congressman-Elect Chris Gibson as a major
contributor to Gibson’s success in the NY 20th congressional race. “I am honored by the opportunity to
support Brian, a “citizen legislator” who will serve in the public’s best interests”, said Littlefield. “I am
confident that he will be elected Rotterdam’s next Town Supervisor.”
McGarry, ran for Town Supervisor in 2009 on the ‘No New Tax Party’ independent ballot line, a slate of
candidates for town and county offices that was created by McGarry, Littlefield, Michael O’Connor and
then sitting Town Councilman John Mertz. The party’s platform opposed the creation of any new tax
district and advocated for freezing the property tax rate. In that election, McGarry garnered nearly 20%
of the total votes cast despite lacking the endorsement of, or financial backing from any of the
established political parties.
Littlefield stated that McGarry will be seeking endorsements from the Conservative, Independence, and
Republican parties. He will also headline a full slate of town candidates on the ‘No New Tax Party’ line.
“Yesterday, in a referendum, Rotterdam property owners voted by nearly a two to one margin in
opposition to the creation of a new tax district” McGarry said. “Armed with the facts, Rotterdam
residents overwhelmingly denounced the proposed increases in spending and the resulting hike in
property taxes. This reflects the growing national trend towards smaller government and sends a clear
message to our local leaders to find less costly options for services.”
Brian is married to Patricia Piersante McGarry, his wife of 27 years and is the father of six children. Mr.
McGarry is employed as a 6th grade Teacher at the Duanesburg Central Schools. He is the owner of
McGarry Photography, a successful local business for the past 31-years. Mr. McGarry earned a Masters
of Science degree in Elementary Education from The College of St. Rose. He is a member of the
Rotterdam Business Association, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Professional Photographers' Society of
New York, Sons of Italy Lodge # 321 in Rotterdam, and is a communicant of St. John the Evangelist
Church in Schenectady. |

 The timing on this is perfect. The day after the new taxing district went down to a humiliating defeat. Brian McGarry was right with his strong opposition. The NNTP was right from the beginning. Brad Littlefield is coming off leading Chris Gibson to a huge Congressional victory. Hopefully the REPS have read Tuesday's results and have trashed the recycle ticket. Run Brian, make a deal with Chris T & Michael. Stop rewriting history. Finally someone with strong fiscal Conservative principles stepping up to the plate. He's tanned, he's from Draper, he's ready to lead. |

Benny, I agree with you on Brian and Brad, but Mike has said he doesn't want to run again. I totally understand how he feels and he shouldn't be encouraged to do something he doesn't want to do. He has proved to be his own person more than once. I respect that and his decision.
We still have a good candidate in Frank Salamone. Is there going to be a vacancy in Co. Leg. this year? Maybe that's a spot for Frank. I don't really view him as a retread since he only threw his hat in the ring once.
Maybe Chris for county leg if there is a seat. Reps could do well this cycle in the Co. Leg.

i am sure i am going to miss a few but two county leg seats (angelo & tony) (dis. 4) rotterdam sup two town board seats reciever taxes? highway 2 county judge spots - mayor multiple council seats plenty of room for everyone to play nice!!!

There are two DEM seats on County Leg. Both are weak and tied to highly unpopular SS Savage. In the interest of big tent REPS-how about Mary B for town board? Mike could be a valuable asset behind the scenes if he doesn't want to run. Chris T must be on the top of any candidates list. FS did very well on only one line. The REPS will win if they start listening, get back to core values and stop being DEM lite. The DEMS are on the run everywhere in 2011. Still working together? lol |

Mary B. wasn't prepared to run last time and still isn't. If the endorsed candidate for county leg hadn't withdrawn in a hurry, she wouldn't have been on the ballot in the first place. Mary just wants to help behind the scenes a good lineup of candidates.
