The problem is not that we need more government ... what we need in Rotterdam is more COMMUNITY.

Lyndon Johnson once said that we will never have peace in and improve the whole world until we start
living more like a community -- in the places where we live.
George HW Bush offered a great idea during his presidency - he said we should become like
Points of Light.

Here are the words of a great song by Randy Travis -- that sums up my philosophy:

Point of Light Lyrics
Artist(Band):Randy Travis

There is a point when you cannot walk away,
When you have to stand up straight and tall and mean the word you say.
There is a point you must decide just to do it 'cause it's right.
That's when you become a point of light.

There is a darkness that everyone must face.
It wants to take what's good and fair and lay it all to waste.
And that darkness covers everything in sight
Until it meets a single point of light.

(Refrain)

All it takes is a point of light,
A ray of hope in the darkest night.
If you see what's wrong and you try to make it right,
You will be a point of light.

There are heroes whose names we never hear,
A dedicated army of quiet volunteers
Reaching out to feed the hungry,
Reaching out to save the land,
Reaching out to help their fellow man.

(Music up one half step)

There are dreamers who are making dreams come true,
Taking time to to teach the children
There's nothing they can't do,
Giving shelter to the homeless,
Giving hope to those without.
Isn't that what this land's all about?

(Bridge)

One by one, from the mountains to the sea
Points of light are calling out to you and me.

(Refrain)

All it takes is a point of light,
A ray of hope in the darkest night.
If you see what's wrong and you try to make it right,
You will be a point of light.

(Repeat last two lines)

If you see what's wrong and you try and make it right,
you will be a point of light.

What a load.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Community in rotterdam????? That's funny!!

The town that defines it's friends and neighbors by what political party they support?

All politics is local... even in Rotterdam.  If you want to change this country, start locally in your neighborhood, your town or your school district.
A sense of community is  what it takes to change the world, one step at a time.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

Exactly,  I remember the 150th Anniversary of Rotterdam - when politicians of all parties and points
of view came together with residents of all parties and points of view to put on a great celebration of
our town's heritage.

We can do the same when it comes to EVERY issue that confronts the town.   Once Election Day is past,
we need to hang up our partisan suits and don our work clothes --- and start working TOGETHER to
make Rotterdam a better place to live, work, and do business.

Not for those who live in rotterdam...........where a person is defined by their political affiliation!

Only in schenectady county do the dems loath the reps and the reps loath the dems! First you have to get politics out of the mix, and ya can't do that in schenectady county. EVERYTHING is owned, run or dictated to by the ruling majority!  The only community that schenectady county knows is the 'friends and family political club'! And that is just the way it is!

I am a Democrat and I do not loathe Republicans.    Had a nice chat with Jim Tedisco on Sunday.
I count many Republicans among my friends ... even have them within my family.

The only people that I have "trouble with"  (loathe is too strong of a word) are Regressives -- and
one doesn't have to necessarily be a Republican to be a Regressive.   Regressives are the mean, nasty,
always negative persons -- who prefer to pursue the politics of personal destruction rather than the
politics of community building and working together.
