Wow! I didn't mean to start some political drama about this! I truly am just a Mom with a family and was concerned
about what I heard about the flooding issue in a house that we are about to buy. Please don't think that I have any other motives other than making sure a home is safe for my family. I would like to thank the poster that gave me
a call this morning. I just spoke to my real estate agent and we are not going to go through with buying this house.
Feel free to discuss the politics of this issue, and know that my intentions were not to stir up a fight.

Thanks everyone.

Don't worry, some democrat activists here make everything about politics. Your posts were sincere. You are smart to back out of the deal. Can I ask how much the house was?

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

If there was a privately owned company that fixed property damages due to poor town planning at a profit to the town, I'd choose that solution all day.

You wanna talk about residents footing the bill for a select few, how about Mallozzi being hooked up to sewers without being billed. Or how about building a 6000 square foot home with many other "new" structures on a 90 acre piece of property without it being assessed and taxed on the new structures.  Then challenging the adjusted assessment, claiming it's valued at $250K. Talk about tax cheats.

Like the big 5 bedroom house on Shardon whose sale price was almost $200,000 more than the assessed value.

You mean like that "footing the bill?"  200 times 24 (tax rate) equals $4800 less in taxes a year since 2008.  I'd say that's pretty good for the brother of the disgraced supervisor.  Maybe Steve can rent a room when the going gets tougher because stupid Steve will probably try for loss number 6.

I knew it was another NNTP/Kelly Rhinesmith ruse.  You come to the most one sided political blog in the Capital District for advice on buying a house?  Yeah right.  I have a house on Shardon that you can buy for $600,000 but pay taxes as if it was worth $395,000.  Honest to God its true!

No water issues but a definate credibility issue.  IMHO

If it's true - fix it.  I don't have a horse in the race.  You're not hurting my feelings.  You seem to be agreeing with me, that the Rotterdam political class runs for elected office for their own self interests and to take care of friends and family.  When they get into office, they don't govern Rotterdam’s 25K+ residents but rather 200 of their closest friends, family, and fellow party members.

Sunrise Blvd and Memorial Park are built over what was once a huge pond.  The drainage on Sunrise
has been a problem for years.

Quoted from MobileTerminal
Since it is a "known issue" by the administration you're so "cozy" with, what is their plan for remediation?

Quoted from Bumblethru
Unfortunately NO ONE in rotterdam trusts what's in TH right now!! Sure they are paid to have the answers.......but they are clueless and everyone in rotterdam knows that!

It was NOT a "Democratic activist" who politicized the discussion.  MobileTerminal and Bumblethru
chose to try to bash the current administration when responding to my post -- which merely laid out
historical fact ... that the low lying area of Sunrise Blvd and Memorial Park were once a huge
pond ...

as far as I know the pond was not registered to any political party and allowed residents
and non-residents of every political persuasion the ability to enjoy its refreshing waters.

I didn't "bash" anyone - I asked what the current administration is planning to do to address the issue

I will take you at your word then -- sorry if I misunderstood -- the real question is "how do we
resolve the problem?"

Just a thought - relevant to the thread - we can't erase the mistakes made in the past -- and in
some cases WAY back in the past --  the Sunrise Blvd area was once a pond and it was drained to
build house .. would that be the best place to build new homes today ? ..probably not
same with Masullo Estates .. my Grandfather grew up just down the road from the swamp that was
drained to build Masullo Estates in the late 1950's and early 1960's .. with the  wetlands protection
laws and other restrictions that development could never be built today.
I am sure that we could come up with a long list of areas that should never have been developed
or should have had better planning or used better technology to resolve "issues" ...
so the challenge is how do we fix the issues/problems and move forward as a town.

Are you serious? I googled Town of Rotterdam Flooding issues, and town of Rotterdam ny....found this website and noticed that it was real people talking that live in the area. I had no one to ask personally and thought it was worth a shot to join and ask my question. I have better things to do than stir up "drama" on a Rotterdam Ny forum... Are you for real? lol
Anywho....thanks to all who helped me.  The house was on the market for 139000 and we offered less and our offer was accepted. Our plan was to put an addition on and finish the garage and basement. Well, that obviously would have been a terrible house for us considering what we wanted with it.

So, again, I'm not anyone of importance to the town of Rotterdam, I don't involve myself in any of the political crap. I vote for who I feel can do the best. I'm a busy mom, I don't have time to find random forums to start fights about stupid crap.

I'm so grateful to the poster here that called me this morning! You saved us BIG TIME! Thank you Thank you Thank you! I wish I could send you a card and maybe a nice batch of cookies.

I don't know if there was ever a study for the water problems by Sunrise Blvd and Memorial Park.

But certainly we must have the ability to put our heads together and come up with a remedy.

There was a study on Sunrise Blvd and I believe it was done by Chazen who also over saw the work.

sweatpants living in his mamas basement. I mean with the name "peeper" and the lack of class, could you blame me? Anyway, who wants some cookies?!?!?!!!
