My #1 priority is providing the best possible service to our residents.  Presently the
Town Clerk's Office is open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM   (8 AM to 4 PM
during June, July, and August).
Since a large part of the Clerk's Office duties is handling permits, licenses (hunting,
fishing, dogs, etc), and "public service type functions --  my question is -- do you
think that we should consider offering extended hours  .. say till 6 PM on Wednesdays
and/or  being open from say 9 AM to 1 PM on Saturdays ??
I am willing to work those extra hours with no additional compensation - if the public
would find those hours more convenient ?

I can see where it would sure help those residents that have to work during the day and can't get there during the current hours.

This is a great idea and something that should have been available to the residents in the past.
This offering of extra hours was part of Lynn's campaign last year...
guess it really isn't your original idea!

Whether it is or isn't an idea that was someone else's plan, it does sound like a good idea.  The only thing that I would mention to people is that if they're planning on having a garage sale, they shouldn't be able to come down to get the permit after they have already opened their garage sale.  They should have to have it prior to opening (therefore no permits on the day of the sale).

I never understood summer and winter hours. It never made any sense to me. Keep the hours the same all year!!

8-4 m,t,w,f

10-6 thurs.

people will adjust to the new hours.

Offering extra hours for no pay, sounds great in the beginning.......it gets old very very fast......trust me!!
Just keep it as a regular 'job' with regular 'hours' and regular 'pay' for hours worked. Work without pay is never a good direction to go in. It is not good practice to set such a precedence for the future of that or any position.

It is just a feel good proposal that is clearly not needed in rotterdam. And a potential political tool for future elections. NOT A GOODIDEA!

Just open later and close later on thursday. Same hours, same pay!

If Rotterdam appoints the max of 4 deputy clerks, Rotterdam could staff of 24/7 clerks office for under two hundrend thousand dollars in salary. Just think of the convenience, it would be like a 24 hr. Walmart.  And our elected clerk can show up for 1 day, then manage the clerks office from the comfort of her home the rest of the term.

There is no intention of naming 4 deputies - I was only stating what the state law allows.

Since a number of neighboring towns offer extended hours -- one night a week -- I doubt that it was
an original idea when Lynn proposed it.

I think the 8-4 year round is actually a great idea -- I suggested Wednesday as the extended hours until
6 PM because twice a month the Town Clerk or Deputy Town Clerk is expected to be at the 7 PM Town
Board meetings anyway.
I think it is more than a "feel good" proposal -- many people work and the current hours make it difficult.
Actually, the Saturday hours might be a good idea right before fishing and hunting season so that
residents of Rotterdam and surrounding areas can get their fishing and hunting licenses.  That might
increase revenue to the town.

It was certainly new to Rotterdam and I think it is a well-needed service to offer to our residents!  Go for it.

Also, you may want to check the websites of other Towns and Villages in our County...they all offer not only meeting agendas but the MINUTES OF MEETING are posted.   Now that is a step towards transparent government. Ron, do the right thing and bring our Clerk's office up to the year 2010!  Thanks in advance.

How many fishing / hunting licenses does the town actually sell?  There's not many fishing spots in town, and everyone and their brother seems to sell them.

I haven't been able to get my license from the town in 3-4 years for hunting because the computer has been broken according to Eunice. So I go to a sporting goods shop now to get it.
